Hello everyone. You know, I was standing in a glassing room yesterday pondering the original question that started this thread. As I looked around I realized that every board on the racks was EPS/Epoxy. I walked around and double-checked, probably 12-15 boards all kicking off in various stages on the racks. Change. Everyone talks about it, hypes it up, alternative materials, alternative construction bla bla bla. But from my perspective- 10-20 guys ordering some hyped new construction over the period of 3 months is not change. A glassing room that cranks out 7-10 a day with the racks full of an alternative construction, that is change. With change comes consumer hesitation- uncertainty about what to buy- and a bigger pie to choose from. Because of that, the $$ is spread around more- instead of buying all his boards from the local Pavel copy machine, now Joe Shred is perhaps buying one board from Pavel knock-off master and one from Backyard-EPS-shralpsticks.com. And perhaps a …lost M3456GH XTR to round out the quiver. Throw in Surftech, Aviso, Firewire and the rest of them- things are pretty diverse right now. There isn’t one thing that you can build right now that is a sure sell to Joe Shred. Except boards that are Pink- those sell. I had a girl come in yesterday that wanted to know whether a conventional board painted pink would be more expensive than a Clear Epoxy/EPS board… I asked her why, and she said that she would surf better on a board that was pink. What??? (obviously the best option was EPS/Epoxy that was pink… but she hadn’t explored that option yet.)
