what kind of board should I take?(hws)

Hi everybody.

After almost a year living inland mexico (chihuahua), and haven’t surfed since then, I’m planning on going to Sayulita area to spend 2 weeks on vacations, making stops in every surfable beach down the road. I will finish my wife’s 5’11’’ fish and want to build me a board to take with me. I don’t know what kind of surf spect because I’ve never been there before (been in San Blas 2 times last year in april, waves were small but very fun). When I was in San Blas I took a 6’8’’ (kind of big-guy-thruster) board, it was my first time riding what I would call a normal (non-HWS) board, and felt confortable with the size. With this in mind I used the online designer on atuacores.com, and ended with the attached image. What do you think about it? Should it be single or tri-fin? What about the rocker? Any insight will be welcome.

Lol . . . this is -er not sways remember, the changeover is komplete. not everyone jumps on 100+ new posts that come every day . . . Just kidding. Sways is always good. It’s possible someone has posted something similar in the archives . . . but I’m not 100% sure. So here goes.

this is just my opinion. flatten the tail rocker just a bit, not too much, just a little. You want to keep most of the tail rocker, it might slow turning . . . but I would make it a single fin, so you have step back, on the tail and pivot like a longboard (since the 6’8" template is long for me).

Which brings us to #2 . . . this template screams out ‘SINGLE FIN!!’ to me. I have 2+1 egg of simialr design and I find myself riding more as a single fin.

#3 thin the nose. 17" is a 9’ longboard nose. My egg is 7’6" and has a 16 3/4 nose . . .

any case have fun

I’m speechless…I think it would be great for a midget longboarder. What are you planning to do with it? I can’t think of a practical application where it would truely excel? Maybe some one could help me too!

Well…ummm…nice outline. Looks like a mini-longboard cept…it also looks kinda like a banana. There’s too much rocker in the tail.

I’d drop the tail rocker to 2" and flatten the bottom from the middle towards the tail. Then kick up the tail rocker. Next raise the nose rocker to 4 1/4". Dome the deck and give it low rails. If you make it a single fin don’t bother with concave but do give it a slight “V” in back third of the board, flattening out behind the fin box. Or for a tri-fin, do a flat bottom to a double concave between the fins. That mini-longboard shape is fun on point breaks but I wouldn’t choose it for a beach break.
