What kind of respirator/mask do you use?

Stevo

start wearing goggles on your butt ?

wear trousers ?

at least with having eyes there , you can , as we say in this wonderful land of ours , “cover your butt” … epic , eh ??

[reminds me a bit of a monty python skit of a man with three bu…ks ?]

I like the idea of the 3M dual chamber mask. Is this what you were talking about PlusOne? The other option to consider is a positive pressure system. I used one of these for cleaning out boiler burn tubes, but only after the first round left my snot black for a few days. Black lung, here I come. The advantage to the positive pressure mask is that the filtering mechanism is usually attached to your belt, so the head gear is very light weight. The disadvantage is that it’s a powered system, so you need to change batteries every once in awhile.

I haven’t been using a mask while shaping lately, as I shape out side I don’t want to scare the nieghboors , glassing I use a cartridge type thing.

Talk abiut things catch on fire . I left a ding repair and the guy rang to say he would pick it up soon, I do a hot mix and whalla smoke and fire as well as unhappy customer at my shed, why is my 9’6 mctavish on fire, Hey it is the fireball model,.

Hey OregonPeter,

yes, dual chamber in the sense that the first chamber covers your entire face, and the second is fitted inside of the face chamber over your nose and mouth. Good pic of one on our website under “Facility”…

Now that’s funny.

Only because you are one lucky SOB.

I speak from the view point of someone whose older brother’s shop burned in '03 while he was in the house getting a cup of joe. That was not funny.

Cause was never found by anyone. He’s a 3D prototyper/modelmaker. What wasn’t destroyed by the fire (brick structure) was knocked down by the fire company onto the machinery.

I was in HB about to walk into the Quik offices for a meeting when I found out. Talk about buzzkill…

Oh, before I forget, Detroit used the same logic in the 50’s and 60’s to block mandatory seat belts in cars. Seems they were more concerned that seatbelts would give consumers the idea that cars were unsafe.

Pointed rhetorical question: Why do the hard lessons learned in the real world seem to stop at the surf industry door?

Well how much are these full face powered airflow masks?

Two I’ve seen at Woodcraft run $169 for something called an Aircap2 and

$279.99 for something called a TREND Airshield

where the THP/2 replacement filters run $31.99

the prefilters run $18.99 and

$35.99 for an extra battery pack.

But these only protect against dust particles not fumes…

What is it?

I hope it’s not a $1000 of protection for a $200 result?

I can see that for a production shop but a hobbiest?

I see my neighbors cringing as I wrap and tape myself up to protect me from wood/fiberglass dust(which I’m allergic too) when I sand a lam hotcoat. Bad enough being in a fullhead wrap with goggles, a half mask respirator, ear mufflers. gloves taped to a longsleeve shirt and long pants taped to your shoes grinding away in a haze of fiberglass…

Imagine doing that in your front yard in a michelin man level-5 bio-hazard suit with an umbilical attached to your oxygen supply… I’m sure the health depart would be called immediately as the dust blows around the 'hood int he trades…

Be interested in seeing how much these different protection options are costing everyone

And finally why would we then feel comfortable with all this mess we’re making to the 'aina (environement) if we are really this petrafied about what we are for our own personal safety.

Reminds me of when they used to burn sugar cane in my neighborhood …

Wonderful smell… kind of made you didn’t care about all the fine black ash falling from the sky…

And Hawaiians …remember chasing the DDT truck down the street as a kid?

New Jersey too. That was a summer treat. Parents were all for it: Brave New World.
