What Length Noserider?

Hi,

I'm a new member, but have read for probably 6 months at least before joining. Thanks for all the great information I've learned.

I'm looking for advice on what would be the best length noserider for me. I ride shoulder and under in beachbreak mostly in Massachusetts when I am there. I live in Costa Rica but visit Massachusetts on business once in a while. I weigh 170 and am 40 years old.

My current board in Massachusetts is a retro noserider with opaque pigment on the bottom, clear deck. 6X6 top, 6 bottom volan. Dims are 9'6" by 19N X 23 1/8W X 16 1/2T X 3 1/4Th. I am wondering if I should go ahead and get another longer noserider. I got it used and later found out that the shaper recommends a 9'10"  Since the shaper himself recommended I get a longer one I'll likely do so, but I wondered what others with experience thought. Thanks in advance.

My personal choice for the east coast would be a short stubby Board with a wide nose a board that would accelerate around sections and you to that section where you could perch on the nose.

A nice 9' to 9'6' would also work. My current long board is a 9'2" square tail  old school style nose rider. Just my Opinion get what makes you happy and welcome to Sways

Thanks for the input and the welcome. Any others have any thoughts? I know this question is very board/rider/location specific, but I am trying to get a general idea if I have the wrong board. I'm still looking for more input.

Pura vida mae, I like to ride singlefin logs too and those dimensions sound right for 170 lbs. I use similar outline dimensions in a 9’10" but I am 215 lbs. The key to noseriding is placing that board into the curl so the water holds you in the tip, with proper technique a 9’6" is good enough for you. I would recommend getting the dvd Sprout and watching the section of Tudor and Machado in Pavones CR 100 times and then taking a 2 week South swell season vacation with your 9’6" to Pavones. There is also great info on noseriding in Tom Wegener’s page. Good luck!
