is there a reversable direction grinder to elliminate asemetric effects while foiling
even a reversable dremel would be cool to not get the dust in the work.
feel dree to ignore this disttraction
but if some body knows of a reversable
besides a drill ov courze.
…ambrose…
just somthing I think about when I’m grinding that cool concave on oneside
and the roundover on the otherside.clamping is better than holding in
my hand and foiling with the free hand
are sabs, keith and I the only ones who foil our fins using a benchtop combination belt disk sander where you hold and move the fin and the sander is stationary?
I think a 6" combo belt/disk sander combined with one of those 1" bench top belts would work just as well.
I prefer holding the piece in my hand and working against the stationary tool so I can see and control what I'm doing
maybe i'm just fin foiling dyslexic or something..
tend to catch, shred and ruin allot of expensive power pads against the trailing fin edge doing it the other way

ha ha ha! i can just imagine that fin leaving your hand and imbedding in the wall like a ninja star...
was reading this thread because i just ordered some G10 from Brian and Greenlight. stoked!
As stated above the angle grinder with the resin impregnated 36 grit sanding disc is the best tool for the rough out on the G10. I use a hard pad with some 40 grit on a slower speed to fine tune it. Then finish it off with a some 80 on a palm sander. I am sure it could all be done with the angle grinder in the hands of a more experienced fin maker, but this works for me.
When I use the G10 I have found that the thinner the foil is the more lively the fin feels, especially in the tip area.

thanks for the info CJ... i got my 4" grinder set up today with a hard disk and 50 grit i will get some more grits soon... i kinda had to rig it because my grinder has the 5/8" x 11 spindle. seems like most 4" grinders have the smaller spindle... i also hooked my grinder up to my variac wich was very cool! being able to slow it and other tools down could have many uses. i took some practice passes on a big old windsurf fin that someone gave me. i'm really looking forward to getting my G10 in the mail
can more people here please post fin foiling photos ?
thanks !
