What should i do with this board??

I have had this board for a while now, and dont know what to do with it. It has some serious tail damage, and damage to the rail around the tail. I am a novice ( just starting on our first board! ), and the tail, and rail around the tail is fairly damaged. Also, the finbox is a little bit loose, not a lot, it would probably hold up, but you never know. The rest are small/easy dings i can fix, but the tail is a worry.

However, its only around 5’ 7", and 2 3/4 thick, and im not sure thats enought thickness or length for me to be able to handle a strip and reglass, and the tail damage is pretty bad.

One of the side fins also has kind of damaged at the base, again, its not going to leak water, and it doesnt move too much at all, but is a bit of a worry.

Obviously, by looking at it its not pretty! hahaha, but i’d be keen to bodgy it up, just so its rideable. Or should i put it in the too hard basket ??

Pics will be up soon, sorry

Beerfan,

Way worse has been posted. Looks like a fun little board and an easy fix. Fix it and ride it. mike

Hi beerfan,

That board looks fun all it needs is some cabosil and resin-glass. Fixing with solar resin would take me one hour. For your first board find a blank that looks like your finished board . Keep it simple!!

I have put 2x’s the work into this board. But remember thats half the fun.

Fixed it up roughly, and took it out this morning. Wow, i’ll be sticking with my 7"6’ for a while!!!. Bit too advanced for me, paddling and catching waves was hard, but not too hard, but, once i got to my feet, it was like riding a skatboard in an oil slick!!!, too fast for my skill level at the moment!!!.

Nice job, if you want a new project make or find a bigger back fin. An 1/8 to1/4 of of a change makes a huge difference on the oil slick slide.

You know what’s funny, i have an 8’ dolphin that i’ll be using for an 8"2’ egg. Maybe, if i can undo the corroded screw on that centre fin, i’ll try it with the 8’er. Wouldn’t that look good hahahah!!

Ian, with a bit of sanding, the 8’ dolphin fin meant for our 8"2’ egg went it pretty good. Its about 1 1/2 inches longer, and 2 inches deeper, basically, it looks massive on the little board. Will such an extreme difference in size of fin make an extreme difference in stabilising the board???. Hope so anyway!

You have just made a widow maker set up, lots of drive. The most fun and best way to find out is in the surf! I have changed some of my worst dogs into my favorite boards by fins alone. And i change fins on my boards after I check the surf most days.
