I’m 14 years old, 135 pounds, and 6’ tall. I ride a 6’x18 1/4x 2 1/4 and it is a pain in the butt to catch waves on. I usually ride in anywhere from 3 to 8 foot waves, what should I be riding.
I was thinking about a 6’4 because I already have a 5’7 x 20 and a 5’9 by 19 1/2 but I still want something in that mid 18 inch range
5-7 x 19.5 x 2.25 modern fish type hybrid , prolly around 27 cl of volume
choose somene to advise and then coach you efforts.
believe what they say and train hard.
in about a hundred hours you will
have your own opinion.
once you do ride somthing
that challenges your abilities
to learn mor about technique
in another discipline.
every six inches in length,
up or down, is a challenge
to your accepted truths.
the learning curve is as
long as you wish it to be
…ambrose…
{the guy said I learned
to surf last year,
I took three lessons.}
how short is short?
how long is long?
5’7’’ is short knowaloha’s recomendation
is short .It will float you in the water.
maybe 7% higher than your 6’er.
train with the swim team
to become a better swimmer
it will help your paddling
find someone who has seen you surf. and stop comparing your boards to those of better surfers.
6-4 x 18.5 ??? @ 14yo and 135
where u surfing ?
It’s almost impossible for others to tell you what you should be riding - too many variables - best to try lots of different boards and decide for yourself. Good luck.
Stingray - I’ll be over in awhile to try them all - what time is dinner ?

Dinner is at 5:00pm....the photo is from Birds Surf Shed in San Diego, California.
Tall boys might want to look at how short most Pros are......even "tall" Pros like Parko are not really that tall in the real world....6 foot and 14 years old. You need a board with some extra foam. I bet most of your surf budies are 5'6" or shorter. a little wider / thicker / longer is what you need....talk to a shaper
