I’m almost finished sanding the hotcoat, and I plan on spraying on an acrylic laquer for the finish coat (it’s a personal board). I took everything to 150 grit, but when I poured some water over the board, I noticed there were several areas where the water separated from the board, indicating there was some wax that hadn’t been sanded out. My question: do I need to sand it out, or can it be hit with acetone, or left completely alone as I’m going to spray on a finish coat. I realize this is probably a longshot, but this is one of those boards that I just want to get finished with. Sanding makes me start to see funny… Thanks!
…It’s either or high spots on the surface or residue from the surfacing agent.Hit it with 220,or better yet hit it with 220 machine/hand, then 320 wet by hand then coat w/ supercrylic from Smart&Final.LET IT DRY COMPLETELY BY USING A FAN ON LOW/MED.,then use a piece of damp teeshirt to apply.Scrunge w/ a scotch brite pad(repeat for more than one coat). After, apply some carnuba type car/boat wax and polish lightly with a machine on low rpms …If you try this and you get it right, it will look very close if all most impossible to tell from a glossed and polished board.Herb
…Supercrylic from Smart and Final?? Herb, you switching brands on us? Does is have the lemony freshness of Future?
…Actually I have used several brands in my past,I retired Future Floor Sealer from a finish coating to a mix for paints and blank sealer.Future works great for this application, but only good to vg for finish sealer work.I moved on to other sealers such as Behr industrial floor sealer, grout and tile sealers, but found them either to be too messy or touchy to work with.As you know Future will work as a finish, but if you put it on to thick, it tends to cloud and later yellow badly(if used correctly this will not happen!!).This was not the only reasons for moving on.I started using the Future for paint mixes and blank sealer and found that it worked much better than anything else I have tried.Future also makes the blank glow brighter and keeps it from yellowing. When taping over paints the Future holds the paint down great, and allows me to use cheaper types of tape when airbrushing.Again don’t soak your blank in it ,just a good couple coats will do.The bond to the lam and gas blowing problems from blanks also is reduced dramatically. …As far as Supercrylic from S&F, I got that tip here from a knowledgeable poster like wetsander or somebody like that.I had tried the regular acrylic floor polish from S&F in the past, BUT NOT the Supercrylic. On this poster’s word I went to S&F AND BOUGHT A GALLON and after trying it one time, found it to be a good to exellent product for finish sealing w/o the adverse reactions that Future/or other sealers has in this application including the regular acrylic sealer from S&F…AND NO it smells like ammonia yuk!But my blanks smell fresh!Herb …PS DON’T GET THESE TO MIXED UP AND TURNED AROUND !!!Supercrylic DOESNOT make a good blanksealer or paint mix ONLY use it for finish sealing. Thanks for your time.
…add:the bond to the blank is much better,as in reference to Future as a blank sealer…sheesh !!! Herb
