...when everyone thinks alike, no one is doing very much thinking...

Imagine that Clark, Walker, etc did not exist, nor were foam cores of any type avaliable…What would your surf craft be made of???

I’d go back to what I started with, a wet pillow case filled with air! You just get the pillow case wet, hold it above your head, and just before the wave gets to you bring the pillow case down in front of you, trapping air inside it, and go! Ok, I was a poor kid but it works and was fun.

…I would probably be skating my brains out in some backyard pool or spillway, pipes etc…or how about epoxy glassing one of those fine drugstore styrofoam cheapies…naw,I’d just ride my HOLLOW WAVE!!!Herb

Imagine that Clark, Walker, etc did not exist, nor were foam cores of any > type avaliable…What would your surf craft be made of??? Hmmm… balsa, chambered balsa and other types of hollow-structured wood. Plus, in good waves flotation isnt essential for high performance, and you didnt say fiberglass and resin weren`t available… so, flexible, solid fiberglass surfcraft… and mil-spec non-permeable fabrics with which to build inflatable surfmats would be just fine with me. Dale

Finally, an original thinker!!!>>> Anybody else have their thinking caps on??? hey Paul!I can’t seem to get you at Thurston.com-keep getting Todd Rundgren fan club.Anyway, the fin continues to impress and work great!Have you thought about or tried making one in the fashion you do and somehow incorporate a little tip flex?I have to be honest, that is the one thing I do miss is that little twang of thrust from the flex.A couple of the neat things about that fin is how it maintains constant drive and it’s smooth flowing turnability. It feels good! I think on a 9’ plus semi-gun or gun these fins would rock! Thanks again! Matt

Matt I just read Dale’s response to our little thread from last monday-ie using foam core on fin to cut back on weight.I was thinking along those lines but use your wood setup in lieu of foam.Any thoughts about that?

Matt Hey Matt… …It’s funny that you’re getting a Todd fan club, I’m a longtime admirer of T.R. and his path of choice regarding musical direction… …I have made some fins with a bit more flex, I just have to foil the tips thinner…aproching vanishing… After my current project (a hollow wooden 8’er) I’m gonna make some more fins…I’ll build one like you suggest… …Thanks for the feedback… Paul
