When they steel your Yakimas.....

Make something cheap and functional…not likely to be stolen…Believe it or not…the 10-4 fits inside the wreck with back seat removed…but wife got tired of riding back there!!

Local Beer Optional

One Inch EMT…electrical conduit… Gorilla tape if you please

Front attached to roof with 1/4 machine bolts with lock nuts

Rear with sheet metal screws…The conduit is attached to aluminum brackets with 1 inch, 1hole conduit clips and 1/4 machine bolts…with lock nuts

the tape covered noodles are laying on the roof…distributing the weight…similar to a soft rack…

cost of parts …under $25…

Wreck with Yakimas…I like my cheapos bettah

rogelio…trying to stay outta trouble!!!

Ahhh, the things one can accomplish when drinking the right beer!

How are they attached to the roof?

Brilliant, but the rope looks pricey.

This thread is awesome and a bit too cose to home.

2000 Altima? I also drive one but in silver. When I first moved to CA in 2000 and learned to surf, i too employed Fun noodle roof racks and they worked for years, Including one 9 day Surf trip up the coast. I did not have any fancy metal, I just strung Ratchet tie down cords through the doors On top of the board in 2 places and held the noodles on loosely with clothesline.

I still carry the 9’6" In the trunk through to the front window. Love that hole in the backseat wall.

When my wife’s job moved over here(Oahu) in 2004 we shipped over the 99’ Nissan Altima. It has been a great car and now has bout 225,000 miles and runnin good.

Initially, I just used sheet metal screws on all 4 towers…but was not that comfortable with the 40 MPH winds on the Pali and after a conversation with Foamdust(Derrik)…I decided  to use  machine bolts on the front two. 2)…1/4 inch bolts with a flat washer and lock  nut. Bullet proof, I reckon.

BTW…to get the tight noodles over the EMT… liquid dish soap works great.

I think it’s much worse when they steal your racks.

Hey Sammy,

what does that A stand for,

rogelio

Howzit Pman, Does your wife still have the car? The reason I ask is after 7 years I can just imagine what the rust factor could have done to the roof of the car. On Kauai there would be holes bigger than the base of those holders. Aloha,Kokua

Way back I did similar on an old Dodge station wagon but put the rack part inside the car so I could lock board(s) in when I left it parked. No wife to deal with at the time though

tool dip the noodles instead---------it'll last longer.
