when basting laps (I read in the archives) to flip the board over when the lam kicks to baste the laps on the other side!? Do I not have to wait till the resin from laminating has completly dried to avoid stains/spots from the racks on the opposite site??? thanks for any advice Z.
i read a tip on here to use wax paper for handling the board, and to lay on the racks so they won;t get f’d up. i tried this when doing a cutlap, and it didn’t work too well. it was a green lam. and the racks left a smeared impression after it setup. i have been pondering the same ? what’s a good way to cut the lap, or baste w/o f’ing up the lam??
It sounds like you are flipping the board too early.I let it get pretty stiff before flipping. The laps on the underside are going to be softer than on the top so cutting a lap with a razorblade will still be easy.Wrap your glassing tees with clean masking tape…re wrap the tape after every board.Flipping a board is a rapid delicate motion, hard to explain.I have used wax paper for ages without any problems whatsoever. If you are not doing a cut lap you can let the resin cure all the way before flipping. Who just baste and then flip it back, right? Will I get spots on the foam now or do you put new tape on the racks between flipping? I just should have someone around to watch, but as there are no shapers in my area i have to bother you guys Z.
