I get my S glass from Resinhead and Keith M......Smoke filled rooms ,Backroom deals...kick backs and bribes........
3 gallon kits of Resin Research getting busted open and spilled on the floor......
These guys are expert E-Bay shoppers.....They like to wheel and deal too.....
If you want a 1/2 roll or full roll send me a PM....I know this Dude that might be able to help you.....Cash helps...
A few years back I forked out the money for a full roll of 6oz E cloth. I posted on Sways ,did some PM networking and found some people that wanted cloth so we split the roll. I got my money back and glassed my board for cheap. AFOAF posted awhile back that the has a boat load of cloth to get rid of.......He knows the Dude too....we'll work something out..
S cloth is a little bit harder to work with. It does not wet out as easy as E cloth. The end product is more "grainy".
I'm told it's much stronger. I'm happy with the S cloth but you will see fibers over dark colors. I think it looks cool!
I think it's worth the extra cost but I did not pay extra.........
Stingray
It’s the only glass I use. I get mine at http://www.fiberglasssupply.com/Product_Catalog/Reinforcements/Glass_Fabrics/glass_fabrics.html
The flat weave makes laminating easy.
heard on NPR this morning:
A quiet neighborhood in Southern California awoke this morning to a scene of ghastly color, as locally notorious squeegee-man identified so far only as “Sting” Ray was found dead in a recycling bin, covered with what appeared to be seal bites and wrapped in a shroud of tough fabric. Investigations are underway, and federal officials are rumored to be involved. “Dang Marine Mammals” one passerby was heard to mutter…“ruining our city, gangs of them everywhere…”
More to follow tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies.
SInce I only make one or two boards a year, rolls are kind of out of the question. I used to buy from Thayercraft when they sold the 3 yard packs but they discontinued. Aerialite used to sell to the public but they too stopped doing that. No love for the little guy. I would buy from Foamez but because my last boards had…ahemmm…adhesion issues…mmmmm…I’m wondering…
I’ve bought a lot from uscomposites.com. I always wonder if they really sending me s-glass. If they sent me e glass I would never know the difference.
I am planning on doing dark color work on this board, so maybe I’ll just do e glass.
Oh, and by the way, I took a walk at the beach yesterday with wife and kid. We walked out on the pier and my daughter spotted a baby seal playing around the surfers. It was funny because he’d be swimming under them and popping up behind them and they(the surfers) were totally unaware. People on the pier were laughing and the surfers had no idea why. Probably thought we were laughing at them. You could see them (the surfers) looking up at us with a WTF you laughing at expression. That made it even funnier. But after reading about the guy in the recycle bin, I’m thinking that little guy was like a scout, checking things out for the big guys to do serious damage. Be afraid. I’ve heard el nino sent small fish off into deeper waters so there’s a food shortage along the coast. I bet those pasty white feet dangling in the water are starting to look tasty.
Tis the Springtime and all thought turn towards mating season for young and old:
I think the dead scrounger was a case of mistaken identity by the over sexed sea lion that lives down the street.....or that's what the rumor on the street says? Police report says that there were nibble and bite marks on the transients ears?
The little pup....well he was trying to get the better angle on the good look'n littl thang in the black suit. Now where is that entry point?
Be for warned people....It is Springtime on the ocean and love is in the air!
fiberglass services in gardena sells small batches IIRC.
they are the best for chip brushes, tape, sand paper, squeegees and anything else you need. never the big box stores, ever.
PM sent...
The back room deals can become very intense....I did not hear about the dumpster diver. Stuff happens......
Keep in mind who your friends are....
Most Rays are friendly with the Men In The Gray Suits......
Screw the Seals.....
There's seals in Carlsbad. They hang out on the bouys offshore from the power plant. We need to make sure the seals do not take over our beaches the way they took over La Jolla Cove / Children's Pool. I love all marine life. Talk to a person who has been diving in the La Jolla area for more than 10 years and you will hear about how the seals are eating everything in sight.....
Sorry...back to S cloth......
Ray
If I can find one locally I’d be willing to buy a roll of 4 oz S and share – i.e. sell you guys what you need by the yard, or barter for other supplies. We do stuff like this often.
You should talk to Ray’s secret weapon…he’s got rolls in the truck and is down in SD at least one day a week.
I will warn you guys, the rolls of S are double the E.
I can get 125 yards of 4oz E for 300 (pretty standard)…the rolls of S were between 500-600$
GADZOOKS!
