Where have all the experts gone?

It’s seems as of late that there is less advice being given by those in the know here in Swaylocks, even though there are still plenty of questions being asked. I have gained much valuable information from this site over the past few years and would be bummed if it changed. So I ask, where have all the experts gone? p.s. So many people out here cannot explain in words how grateful we are for those who help us out. Thank you all!

Speaking for myself there was a whole bunch of thick backassward b.s. aways back. Hella big egos soured all the fun, then split. they mortally wounded the fav old Sways sweet groove. needs a fresh transfusion to end the confusion.

Atchoouly the surf is coming up and there’s a bit of war going on at the moment. I’m thinking people are just a bit busy right now. After a couple of more days most everybody will probably drop back in for a dose of reality.

I have noticed the same thing.I think a lot of it has to do with the swing toward conversations about epoxy boards. Its a pretty small part of the board building world and is growing in popularity. We are lucky to have a pioneer like Greg around to answer questions on this subject. Most of the the older guys like myself are not “experts” in this field so therefore you don’t hear much on the subject. One other point might be that probably every question you could think of has probably been discussed over and over and is somewhere in the archives. The Swaylock Archives are probably worth their weight in gold…but not nearly as much fun as a good string of talk.Long live Swaylocks. …Been unhappy with only one foot in the bucket, so I decided to stick both feet, hands, and face in it!No,but seriously,I have been working on Superchargers to back stock, and fill orders including Mr.S’s collector set.Finished 13 pistol grips for the Hitachi planers today alone, and have another 20 to do.(By the way guys,I’m jelious!!!your grips are way better than my own prototype,by far).and oh yeah, building killer speed skateboard decks, that have gained some big attention in the pro skateboard world.Looks as though I might be slamming out a limited number of these revolutionary decks for a well known Skateboard company SOON! NOW THIS IS NOT INCLUDING,my job,my family, sleep…whatever that is…shaping, surfing, skateboarding, etc, etc, etc. Not bad for one person. …I will be posting my skateboard decks here for you guys to view, and I’m about to place a Swaylocks ad for the M-16 Hitachi planer pistol grips for users here to purchase. All and all it’s been a busy month.Herb www.skatebuilt.com–www.swaylocks.com–www.deathbox.com–www.ncdsa.com

If you want good advice from the experts, ask them good questions. I bet they’re chomping at the bit to sink their teeth into a juicy topic.

Speaking of epoxy/polystyrene core…say, Greg (L.),… you ever thought of having someone video you for an instructional session regarding the aforementioned mediums?! (I heard him groaning, just then!) I figure that’s probably not your bag…making shaping videos and such …but that sure would be a boon for folks wanting to take the plunge into epoxy. A nice instructional would help the old guard make a transition. Incidentally, keep all of your (collective) eyes peeled for a “Hands on History” (repeat) segment (on the History Channel) which dealt with building an epoxy board. Aired about a year ago…was pretty good. Say, Rodge…when’s the glassing video/dvd due…by the way?..how you guys making out? Stills at Damascus look good. T.

Its been so long I almost forgot about the glassing video (just kiddin). The way I understand it is that Damascus is on it at this time. They had to finish the film on building the Mandolin first (contract type stuff).I did mine for fun so there is no pressure. When the editing is done I will have to do a narration. We may do it in California while filming Jim Phillips carving out a Balsa board. Thanks for the thought. Howzit Webster, We’re still here, but I’ve been doing a shop expansion and have been finishing my electrical wiring instead of spending time online. It’s a little thing called priorities. Time away from work means less $, and there is always another little thing called the cost of living that can’t be denied. By the way Gas at the princeville station is $2.35 a gallon these days, ah the price of paradise. Aloha, Kokua

$2.35 in Kauai? $2.16 self-serve 87 octane in Southern California. Water temp 56 degrees…

unrelated question. anybody know where i can contact the Admiral board shapers in San Diego. i heard they were in the OB/Point Loma area.

Albers Bros. board…is it airbrushed or opaque lam??

Hey Teddy. It looks like an airbrsuh because you can clearly see the stringer (like it was taped off). That board looks fun though. See ya- huey

their busy fine tuning new fin and boards designs…

they are busy fine-tuning new fin and bopard designs…

Howzit Nels, Think I’ll pay the extra money and enjoy the warm water. Aloha, Kokua
