Where to get divinylcil and corecel in So Cal

Any suggestions of where to buy these 2 products in Southern California. I’ve found it online but I would like to avoid the shipping costs.

hey dan,

this may be lame advice but if you call some marine suppliers in your area and ask youll eventually find what your looking for…i found a local marine wholesaler that has hard to find stuff that i want…it took a few phone calls but eventually i scored big…quite sure that SanD would have some good distributors…good luck

Fiberglass Hawaii has Corecell

It’s hard to get D cell now aday

PM CMP he orders his off the internet and found a source on the net.

And we have to pay to have it shipped to Hawaii…

Corecell; email the info link; http://www.spsystems.com/contact/reps/rep_map.htm or info@spnorthamerica.com . They were pretty quick with a response about where to find what I was looking for and what I really wanted;

"Hello Geoff,

The foam that will probably be best suited to you is our T-foam. T-foam has a higher thermal stability (100 C) and higher compression strength which help reduce heel denting. You will probably want to try ¼” T-500 plain. It will machine nicely, thermoform and the small cell structure makes for a fantastic surface bond with minimal resin uptake.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I will be glad to help.

Regards,"

There ya go! SP reps are pretty helpful…they wanna sell their products. I’ve been able to find d-cell at fiberglass supply shops and marine suppliers here in Vancouver, but it was pretty steep and they didn’t have the sizes I wanted…email them; they’ll let you know where to go.

Cheers,

G

Dan, I’d go with GWN on this one and get that other foam. I found the d-cell to be extremely resin-thirsty. As a result, it ended up overly heavy & stiff on the longboard.

When I used it for the rails on the peanut, I sealed it first with a microsphere/epoxy bog, like Mr.J (whatever happened to him?) and it was better. But it also dulls the crap out of shaping tools like surforms & hand planes…

Maybe try to call Dencho Marine. Dencho is Dennis Choate a old time shaper but also maker of high end sailboats. I know they use divinylcil and could tell you their supplier. he is in Long Beach- 1517 W. 15th St.

The besy deal will be from Noah’s marine in Niagra Falls, N.Y. Shipping will be cheap with ground rates to CA. They are having a smaller than full sheet sale on cor cell

at 50% off. (I don’t have the website on this computer but a search should find it easily.

Locally any boat builder will probably have gobs of the stuff, scrap pieces are free sometimes. Also, the WA/OR sailboard builders have it availible, purchase by the case and save big bucks.

Again, shipping for a case is very reasonable and you could then possibly supply the sway crew in your area if you get a case.

Thanks everybody for the advice! CMP, thanks for the name of the company. It took a little digging to find the company, but they seem to be exactly what I’m looking for. Here’s the link if anybody else is interested http://www.noahsmarine.com

Not if this matters of is related but I heard from the grapevine that Fiberglass Hawaii was getting out of the business of selling foam blanks and was dumping them all at $50 each including longboard ones. A friend who’s making alot of boards lately just bought a ton from the honolulu store…

Just an FYI for those that are close by to one…

Best thing to do at those stores is to ask…
