Hi, I am new here and I have a situation I need some input on. I have always rode 5'10-6'6 thrusters and have been quite content with the ride. I just got a 4'11 simmons inspired quad and now cannot stand how my normal shortboards feel. Is this normal? I really am enjoying the little quad but now have a garage full of thrusters I don't like to ride. Is it possible to switch back and forth and enjoy both style of boards or should I get a new quiver?
Thank you for your responses and warm welcome. I am by no means joking when I say I am quite freaked out at how bizarre my old faithful boards have become. They feel so narrow, stiff and slow. I guess it's all a perspective issue and what we get used too.
I do not want to stop riding the new board, it's way too fun. I have switched back and forth from a 9'0 longboard to shortboard with no problem for years, so this was very unexpected. I am hooked on how easy the new little board gets into waves, it's speed and looseness. I think going rounder as surfthis said is my next step. Maybe a new bigger round quad. I dropped a few photos of my new ride. I am not sure what shape you all would call it.
Hey Jenna - I thought that first post of yours sounded a little like a troll, except I met a guy in the lineup at Faria who said the exact same thing! He finally got rid of his Simmons and went back to riding standard hpsb's.
Me, I'd keep the favorite, and sell the rest to finance a new hobby - surfboard building...welcome to swaylocks!
kind of a subjective question… if you like it more then maybe sell a board or 2 and replace it with something else. I used to ride short thrusters the majority of the time, and then started building other designs for myself and cannot remember the last time I rode a thruster. I didnt realize what I was missing. If you like it then ride it… if not, then sell it

You can switch back and forth, but you gotta put in the effort to re-learn thruster surfing. Another solution is a short, wide thruster. I think someone mentioned a pumpkin seed(?) in another recent thread, something like that. Anyway, a wider overall outlined round pin could be a good transition type board, and likely a better all conditions (small to a little overhead) type board for you.
