where to install single fin box?

I’ve got a 7’11" with a swallow tail,fun board. Have a 10" box,question is where should I put the box and then the fin?

Somewhere towards the back of the board! How deep are your swallows cut?

Tuna, the swallow is cut 1.5" up and the tips are approx 6".

hi Keith !!

if it helps, the back of my finbox on my 7’ single is 6" up from the pod [the tip of the tail]. It’s a pintail.

If I wanted to be able to move the fin more than 9" forward from the back of the box, I’d probably go with a 12" box. I’ll be doing that for my 5’7 ‘stubbie’ single fin, believe it or not, because I’m making a very raky fin for it [with the tab at the back of the fin].

For me personally , it all depends how far forward or back I want my fin, for/and the kinds of waves I’ll be riding…that’s the BEAUTY of boxes , to me!!

Chipfish,your answers are very useful. i usually go for smaller boards with twin or thruster setup,so I just was not sure, I will probabley go with 5-6"up depending on thickness in the tail.
