See what you started! All this over a widow tint job? Don’t get’em tinted too dark. You’ll get a ticket. Hd
Are you suggesting…US Blanks makes their foam in Mexico…I read this twice in your posts. In Mexico there is lack of environmental concerns and exploited labor,
As for the foreign factory, I cant imagine the same folks who couldn’t make their business model work in Mexico can make it work from 7000 miles away, with shipping costs and containers having a bigger carbon footprint than 500,000 autos…
Those who support this proposition are some of the biggest short sighted hypocrits in surfing…the forefront of environmentalism…my arse…
You should reread surfteach’s post again and then read( for the first time) the addendum he posted to correct his “mis-speak” Mexico’s lack of “environmwntal concern” Is the Mexican Govts. problem. They go about doing anything about it the same way they go about the drug cartel problem. Grease their palm. The corrupt Mexican Govt don’t give a shit about their own people, labor and the Mexican people in general will always be exploited by their own corrupt Govt. American businesses that do locate there pay better and generally have more concern for their workers’ safety and well-being. You’re as confusing to read as Surfteach’s first post was. What 7000 mile deal are you talking about anyway? The remarks made about a former Baja foam company setting up in Asia were nothing more than hearsey. So what! That’s their choice. No one contributing to this thread made any remarks that could be interpreted as support. You on the other hand probably ride a Surftech or have at least one in your quiver. One company less in Thailand or Taiwan isn’t going to make any differance to the Communist Chinese Govts. environmental or labor policies. Which are some of the worst on our planet. One less container from Thai isn’t gonna change how many are coming out of China. I don’t remember the term “forefront of environmentalism” coming up anywhere in this thread. I’ll double check though and if I am wrong I am sure you will name call me a hypocrite and point out the error of my ways. Oh and by the way the word is “Ass” as in “Asshole”.
US blanks is in Gardena, CA
Before the sliging gets any more momentum I’d like to jump in and redirect…
The thread originally addressed 2 main subjects- Yellowing and American Manufacturer’s. Since the subject has kinda turned to a discussion of Foreign vs. Domestic Foamers I would to respectfully pose the question.
Does it really matter to you where (what country) your blanks are produced?
Does it play a role in your decision making process of who to buy blanks from?
With the way the economy/board sales have been lately it seems that price (assuming the quality is “Fair”) is the #1 factor driving blank purchases.
I’ve seen the same guys who SCREAM about the tiniest of imperfections on a 1st quality blank gladly pay $25 for a 2nd and calmly say, “I can make that work for $25”. So really where is the line drawn?
Everybody knows that manufacturing in the U.S. is more expensive than virtually anywhere else in the world (except for Europe maybe). Are you willing to pay more for blanks produced here? Would you pay more for a blank that didn’t yellow as quickly?

buy for your local shaper and foam company and try to save the surf community in your neighborhood.
and hope you never have to call a foreigner to add 1/4" N at 24 and wait three months to get it
and its not heresay, when I call the guy and he answers the phone as he gets off the plane in a Chinese airport and explains to me what he is doing… No I wont be buying foam from him. and I will ignore the smurf insinuation…
We all have free will and the right to vote with our wallet.
Just a few last comments and then I’m outta here…
I would rank available blanks as follows, whitest after 6 months
with no color:
- Surfblanks America
- Just Foam
- Bennet/King Mac (actually a tie for 2nd but hard to find)
- US Blanks
I don’t have any experience with Ice-Nine or Blair.
I don’t buy from distributors since distribution has smoothed out,
I buy direct and want rack boards to stand out so this is important
to me.
On an ecological note, I think we need to understand that our sport
uses tools (boards, wetsuits, etc) that have an impact, but not as bad
as our American consumer way of life. If u really want to make a difference
to offset our surfing footprint, recycle your home waste! Go solar on your
house! Use cloth shopping bags (I really hate seeing those plastic bags
in the lineup)! Consume less plastic based products!
Ok, I’m done sorry for the rant and thanks McDing!
