Which is easier to duckdive?

Hi all,

Some friends and i were discussing this recently, and i found that it trawled up some interesting answers.

We were discussing which is easier to duckdive; a surfboard or a bodyboard. Now, i am an avid waverider and ride both types of board, so personally im struggling to come up with a decsive answer. Each have their own merits.

My stand-up-only friends said that a bodyboard would definately be easier to duckdive because there is less board to sink and you have the fins to kick down/through with.

On the other hand, my bodyboard-only friends defiantly claim that a surfboard would be easier to duckdive as there is the added length of the board to carry you through the wave once you’ve got it under, and the fins act as anchors to stop you from getting thrown about as much.

In my experience i’ve found both points to have some truth to them, so am rather undecided. I’m sure that - as with most things in surfing - its all down to personal experience, but nevertheless i’d be interested to hear some peoples opinions on the matter.

Cheers,

Kevin

that of course all depends on the type of surfboard you are talking about…obvoiusly a small tater chip performance grommy thing can be pushed under water with my pinky toe. Bodyboards are thick and wide and bouyant…i don’t know why i just responded to this…

Get a bodyboard and a surfboard and try it out and report back to us.
