while we're focused on EPS and epoxy...

what’s the status on UV-cure epoxy Greg? That’s the one convenience of polyester resin I find hard to give up on.

To expensive at this point and the tech needs a lot of work. I’ve worked on it some but I won’t put my real effort into it until the raw material prices are resonable.

greg-

what types of cloth are available for laminating epoxy? I am interested in using volan cloth or other heavy cloth’s for weight issues, is this possible?

They all work fine.

Greg, was it you that posted about the 2.5 or 3 lbs/ft3 EPS foam now being sold some where if so where? I read it last night but I can’t find it any where in the forum.

The post your talking about got deleted I think… but, I have the info your looking for… sent to me in a private message… names taken out for privacy issues, but the person who wrote this can PM you about it… or, pm me and ill tell you who to talk to…

Hi Scott -

I custom ordered my 2’ X 3’ X !2’ block through my local Home Depot. It is 1 1/2 lb/cu ft density. They apparently hadn’t done it before so it took awhile to play phone tag with the Insulfoam rep and finally get a firm quote.

Once that was done, I went in and paid 325.77 up front. It arrived at the store within the week and I picked it up. Waiting for them to ship it with normal delivery saved me on additional shipping fees which would have been a lot. Lighter density foam was a little cheaper but too soft for my preference. I plan to try some bagging on of balsa veneer.

If I was planning to use straight fiberglass (without sandwich composite), I’d go with the 2.5 lb/cu ft density that is apparently available now.

I plan to basically follow the rocker patterns listed in Clark catalog to make my profile templates for hot wire cutting of the rocker and thickness. My outline template will be clamped to the blank and a 90 degree angled hot wire cutter used to cut outline along the template. I’m also working on a beveled hot wire device to reduce rail thickness.

Normal planer work and sanding will be required after that.
