Who has the best deals on blanks, resin, and everything else so I can make my own board?

I’m going to be shaping and glassing a board for the first time in years and was wondering where the best sources are to buy everything as inexpensively as possible? I’m hoping to find a source that is substantially less than Mitchs so I’m thinking online for stuff like fin boxes, leash plugs, cloth, resin, hardener, and somewhere in or near San Diego for an EPS blank (I don’t mind driving north some to save on shipping).

  • Epoxy resin (User friendly and non-yellowing)

  • EPS blank

  • Leash cups, fin boxes, etc.

Thanks

Steve

Hey Steve,

we can help you out with everything your looking for, check our site or feel free to call and any of the guys help you get dialed in.

Mitch’s is a great place to start.  If you’re only doing a couple boards and you’re close then I doubt it’s worth it to drive around.   Great blank room.

Fiberglass Source sells most supplies including an inexpensive epoxy (1.5 gallon kit costs $79)

http://www.surfsupplycompany.com/

Aeromarine in SD also sells their epoxy and specialty stuff like pour foam and mold materials

http://www.aeromarineproducts.com/

WNC sells EPS blanks (custom rockers are $5 extra) in all densities - great **foam, **good prices.  They’re in SD.

If you’re going to build more than a couple boards Thayercraft sells fiberglass cloth in 25+yd quantities at good prices - buy the 50" - 60" widths and save.

We also have an underground among local Sways participants so you can piggyback off of buys others have already made - Thumb through the threads in the General Discussion forum and look for the “let’s make a deal” threads started by Stingray.   He’s the ringleader at the Low-Tech Lab and a heckuva nice guy.

If you wanna try out various glassing techniques or vacuum bagging just ask - there are a few connections to be made for corecork and veneers and bagging rigs and the nylons.

Graphite Master sells the really technical fabrics and reinforcements

Fiberglass Source in Oceanside…

Hands down.

Make the drive and save some cash.

Resin requires an extra shipping fee for Haz-Mat that would negate pretty much any lower price if you buy it online.
