I do with epoxy hotcoats but can usually get a poly 4oz glass job just right but the lam has to be super clean and tight and the lam and hotcoat has to be prepped thoughtfully - sweet coats on the rails and bottom lap make it much easier but are not necessary. I have weighed boards through the stages and have gotten the finish weight after gloss coat to match the hotcoat weight before sanding (finish coat weighs same as the weight removed from sanding)
Yes
I don’t do much in poly resin anymore…strength-wise , epoxy wins hands down …more strength , without the “brittle”…however , poly gloss coated boards have far less heel dents and deck depressions than boards that don’t use it…and are far more ding resistant…although , a serious ding will penetrate just about any glass job…lack of a hard shell gloss also increases the likelyhood of a snapped or creased board , which is a far too common occurrence these days .
That’s good info. Smart stuff. Would like to do the same sometime. Would be cool to weigh at every stage. Lam, fins, hotcoat, sand, gloss, Lowel
The one on the left?
Whats a Ferro pad?
Easy Coast USA product. I like them and have been using them exclusively a couple of years now. More reasonable on the $$ and durable. I’ve got the #'s of the ones I use at the shop. I’ll post them later. L
