If you would like to see these threads continue and have an interest in carrying the ball for a while if love to hand it off. I’ve exhausted my contacts.
I was hoping someone with Australian connections would step up. Actually Bert agreed to sit in the Hotseat but asked to delay a while. I haven’t pressed him. Perhaps you could start there?
I’d rather have this discussion via PM if possible. Also FYI I am not officially authorized to do any of this. I just did it. Forgiveness vs permission etc.
There are so many shapers from AUS who I’d be interested in grilling. Dick Van Straalen, Neal Purchase Sr (or Jr), Diverse Dave, Josh Dowling, Geoff McCoy (!!!), Tom Wegener. There’s not nearly enough AUS love on Sways.
I’m sorry I’ve been out of the loop for a while. What does this hot seat entail? I’m on the Gold Coast Awe-Straya and know quite a few local shapers. I’m not a name dropper [yet] but who do want and what do they have to do? Come on here and answer questions? If that’s so, I’m sure I could at least line one or three up.
We can’t over look them. Quanta, you are the only one to speak up and volunteer. I will PM you with a few tips. Would love to see Tom Wegenner or Midget up next.
Its a big ask for some guys, my mate who was tom wegener’s apprentice for 7 years said tom got off sway locks cause of all the drama.
I can ask Josh Dowling, I only know him through facebook, and he answers most of my questions through there so its a maybe.
Matt, from Factory Surfboards is the one who did the apprentice with tom so he could be good, makes GREAT Logs and fibreglass finless creations, is a stanch advocate for PU PE and not eps epoxy. Does every step himself. “No different people in the processes.”
I dont know anyone else, Josh Constable “creative army” surfboards?
Public forums can be hostile places. Very few are not. There is always a handful of d!cks and narcissists with local’s only and/or my-way-or-the-highway mentalities. I can understand why those who are in the surfboard building business have better things to do than participate on public forums. Personally, I avoid public forums related to my profession for that very reason.
That being said, Greg Tate with the assistance of moderators has created a fairly insulated evironment for Hot Seat guests. He has established a protocol that has prevented trolls and other antagonists from disrupting the flow of the thread or attacking the guest. IMO Greg and company have done an outstanding job of keeping the Hot Seats series civil and polite. With this in mind, the only real demand for the Hotseat Guests is their willingness to expend the effort needed to answer many questions. Also it can give the Hotseat Guest some well-deserved recognition.
FTR, Greg Tate has done a fine job with the Hotseat Series.
