Finished my 4th board now and so far, I’ve learned a lot about myself and something about the designing and building process.
- While a surfboard is not all that hard to produce, if you haven’t tried to make one, you have no idea hard it is to make a good one.
- One must have a detailed plan and follow it diligently. The guy on the DVD just starts planing. He doesn’t seem too concerned about watching the dimensions.
- I really don’t need any power tools but, it wouldn’t be as fun.
- Is there a mentoring program for this?
- Experienced builders must know exactly where the tiniest adjustments, mistakes, and modifications have tremendous implications. What they must know overwhelms me.
- Surftech can make a board a lot lighter than me.
- I suffer from approach avoidance when glassing. It’s hard to pass off a mistake as a design change at this stage.
- I suck at board art
- It’s really amazing how I can love something I’ve made and hate how it performs. I don’t have kids.
- I can hardly wait to start on my next one
