Business ?

Self satisfaction ?

A glutent for toxic punishment ?

To empress a girl ?

Most popular in your school ?

Wanna be social outcast ?

poor ?

Cheap ?

dumb ?

smart ?

What ???

Why build ?.. when you can buy a Surftech or a Rusty… or whatever…?

The pro production boards are superior in every aspect…aren’t they ?

Can you build a better board ?..cheaper…tell it here or forever hold your peace !

H

I’m too cheap to get anyone else to do it. Plus, and it’s a big plus, I can experiment with materials, construction methods, etc. without having too much $$ into it if it doesn’t work (goes back to being cheap).

edit: I should add that I love the shaping and design aspect of it. I also have a love/hate relationship with glasswork. I think both epoxy and polyester resins are some of the coolest chemicals out there, to go from a liquid state to a hard plastic that seals and gives our shapes a nice, hard shell. That said, I don’t mind glassing my boards, but it gets tiring glassing someone else’s.

It is fun to shape the foam.

It is challenging to try and transfer what is in your minds eye to the foam.

It is fun and fulfilling to surf on equipment that you created.

becuase it compliments our lifestyle.

its a skillset that I desire to have

because the outcome is poetry

Because I’m OCD!!!

I shape so iI can glass…

Bob

to try different shapes, sizes and find what is best for me without breaking the bank.

Howzit Herb, Mainly a glasser but do shape on occasion.Aloha,Kokua

Because riding the finished craft is a lot more satisfying than making wood furniture that just sits there looking pretty.

Does Norm Abram surf? If he did, I bet he wouldnt be making tables and chests.

Long live tinkerers and gearheads!

I love to shape air

And wrap it in color

To fly across waves

I love to make people happy

Herb,

I cut, shape, sand, glass, sand some more, sand some more, spit, cuss, polish, wax, and drink for the second reason.

Ride on,

Tom

I like making stuff - and I love surfing.

Because I can - sort of…they seem to work - sort of…it’s fun - sort of…it’s not easy - sort of…

Shaping or glassing, when going well, is like a dance…sometimes I’m Fred Astaire, sometimes Sly Stone or James Brown…

Cause surf shops don’t smell like surf shops anymore…

Remember…you walked in and could SMELL new boards…not clothes…

Love the smells…Glutton for toxic punishment I guess…

Plus, I get to check out new boards while having a beer…

“Dat’s a so nice!”

(Joe Walsh)

I like making them,

there was noone else.

needed a hobbie

hate glassing but can’t get a glasser.

love sanding

love shaping

too much time on my hands

not enough time on my hands.

I like experimenting with design, fin types, and fin placement. Plus I have found that sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day and then going home to play in the shaping shack is like meditation at the end of the day. Also it is nice to work with your hands and see a finished product that you can surf later on.

I have also learned that with each board things are getting better and better.

Mike

First I did it 'cause it was fun and it pissed off my parents.

Then I did it 'cause it was fun and it pissed off my wife.

Now I do it 'cause it’s fun and it pisses off Keith’s wife…

I like to create things.

Its fun when they work as intended.

Sometimes you get a surprise.

I get to hang around here.

A tailored suit, a custom bike, which size really fits all?

Business and pleasure.
