It has been written Roy Stewart sometimes rides waves much faster than other surfers. He often appears to be moving twice as fast! But if that’s true why don’t surfers in his area who see such unusually fast rides respond in his defense? Where are the impartial, unrelated witnesses?

We compete for the same waves, so no surfer at my home break is impartial, however people often comment on the speed of my boards, I don’t know why they don’t post on Swaylocks sorry.
I suggest that you come down here and see for yourself. . . . or let the penny drop that we are reporting correctly.
If we could only get off this speed trip and have a thread about people who surf with style, ability and grace and also MAKE the wave - and don’t post vids of themselves cutting people off - then we will have something to read…

Anyone riding waves THAT fast doesn’t need their surfing speed documented to catch the attention of others! Not all who surf with Roy remain silent because of jealousy. Certainly some are astute observers, impartial, unrelated, and internet users. Perhaps some are even Swaylocks lurkers. To me, impartial, unrelated witnesses are almost as important as GPS readings. Their absence in the face of such claims is reasonable cause for doubt.

The bottom line is that I know what I am doing, and so I am in the luxurious position of being able to laugh at your weedy attempts to push the world back into the mold which it recently broke out of. . . . knowing that I can prove what I am talking about repeatedly is nice because eventually grumblers like you can be silenced and you will sink back into the primordal soup from whence you came !

When a bold claim is made, it is not someone else’s responsibility to disprove the claim, but rather is the person’s responsibility who is making the bold claim to prove it. The less reasonable a statement seems, the more proof it requires.
Roy seems to have made a sincere effort to document his surfing speeds. Yet one would be more compelled to believe the alleged data if it was backed by impartial, unrelated witnesses. Especially those who share a background in surfing- expert witnesses as it were. Roy’s surfing is not without witnesses. So where are they?
It does not follow that all other surfers are never impartial. In fact total impartiality is not necessary when one surfer appears to travel as much as twice the speed (or thereabouts) of nearby surfers. The difference in velocity would be obvious even to untrained observers. Witnesses on shore would not be 100% impartial, nevertheless their testimony would lend fascinating credence to Roy’s posts.
