I know it sounnds completely stupid to have a leash plug in front, but think about it, if you had the right size leash. There wouldnt be any drag of the leash at all. I know there is someone out there with a lidigmate answer. donno im just wondering, corb.

In order to paddle the leash would need to be pretty long then you have all that mess to step on after you stand up. Matt Kechele puts his leash on the front foot. Less leash in the water and it doesn’t bother you. Or just get rid of the leash. Rob Olliges

When we made our first crude leashes in about 1970, they were commonly called “shot cords”, and were attached to the tip of the boards, in part because of experimentation with pull/leverage. 3/8"-1/2" dia. surgical rubber tubing anchored to a 3" dia. suction cup. A hassle to paddle. Plenty of close-calls and head injuries from the tubings rocketing velocity snap-back. Jack O
Neill lost an eye… but then years later, Derek Hynd did, too. And his was a modern polyurethane leash attached to the tail. The safest leash is no leash. http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=170

Kurt Wilson, owner of X-trak had his leash plugs in the nose. He wore life guard shorts with beltloops and a webbed belt. He had a stainless steel d-ring on the belt so the leash was on his front foot side and only needed to be as long as from his hip to the nose. Kurt is an amazing inovator and was razzed by the other APS pros that he used his leash to pull the nose of the board around, nothing could have been farther from the truth. He was rookie of the year, placing first, go a slot in the Stubbies, beat the crap out of all the competitors, only to lose to Matt Keckele in a 2 out of 3 very fixed final rounds. After that he saw the writing on the wall and said f–k pro surfing

On my older kneeboards I use to attach the leash to the nose and the cuff to my upper arm. Worked great and was a whole lot easier to retrieve the board(nose first- less resistance) through the white water after a wipeout or bail.
