Wide point for a retro twin fin fish?

Hey guys. So I’m templating out my first board, and I need a little input. First off, my shape is going to be a 6’0" retro twin fin fish. I am going with a width of 21.5", and looking for a thickness of nearly 3", maybe just a hair less. I understand that the wide point of a fish like this should be shifted slightly forward, but just how far forward should I go? The points of the swallow tail will be about 11" apart, if this is relevent to the question. Thanks in advance for any input that you can give me. \

…i’ve found that three inches forward on a 6’0 works well for me…

…21.5 wide is pretty wide…How much do you weigh? Where will you ride this board?

Lis/Frye style fish from the Surfboard Design and Construction book…

as previously posted…

Hi 4est,

Could you email me a higher res version of that Lis/Frye fish page?

I would like to compair my #'s to it but I can’t read them all off your swaylocks post.

Thanks in advance!

First off, I’m no expert. I put the wide point in all my fishes 3 inches in front of center no matter what the length, from a 5-8 quad to a 6-6. No special reason and I dont remember why I started using this number. The plane shape looks right to me regardless of the length. The width is between 21 and 22 inches in all of them. Again, no special reason other than the curves look right. I’ve got pretty consistent good riders using these numbers. Most of them are for me. I’m 49, 5-9 and 175 pounds. Mike

I am 6’2, 180 lbs. Does that width sound a little more on target now? Or do you still think thats to much? I’ll be surfing this board on the Central Coast of California (Morro Bay, Pismo, etc.)

S…805,

The dimensions you posted, sound BANG-ON, for your height and weight.

Sounds good. The template I have drawn on there now has the wide point at the center, but I could tell it didn’t look quite right. I was using a combination of two spin templates, so I’ll see if I can find a better arrangment. Maybe I can get to that today…
