Wide point forward hybrid, but wide tail and narrow nose like a shortboard??????

Just sketching some boards, and i am thinking of somnething like a shortboard/ semi fish thing, and i wanted to know if you could keep a shortboard kind of outline, with a wide tail ( 15 1/2-16’’ ), and a narrow nose ( 13’’ ), but push the widepoint to just in front ( +2’’ ) of centre???. Any “commercial” examples, or pics of your own???. I ask because it looked good when drawing them on paper, and i think it would help with paddling, but turn easier than a full on fish shape.

Cheers guys.

I’m doing a repair on a Bill Johnson surfboard that is very close to what you are dreaming about. I don’t have any deminsions…This thing’s a custom…don’t see it on their web page

I was thinking about just the opposite about two hours ago. I have attached of a board that may or may not interest you. The reason I got to thinking about it was partly marine life and partly paddling ability. I think if you push the widest point forward you can increase the volume under the chest (paddling). I was also thinking of a dolphin which I believe has it’s widest point in front of centre. I kind of wonder if this “widest point” clears the way for the part that propels. That being the tail. Kind of like a slipstream. But back to the subject at hand. The board in the centre might be a little along the lines of what you are looking for. Or at least it would if I could upload it.

Ok, so it must work ok if people are asking for them to be made as a custom. Any chance of a pic??.

Deanbo, it sucks when they wont load up hey?? haha. Yeah i want good under chest volumje, but still have some sharpness in the turns, not hi perf snaps or anything, but easier than my 16’’ wide nosed fish. Im a front foot surfer mostly, although, i have recently found out what weighting the back foot can do half way up the face, and i likey likey!!.

Bill Johnson 5’10" x 18.85 x 2.25. Featherlite Glass Job. Future Fins. C J Hobgood logo on deck. My friend bought this board used off of the rack at Surf Ride in Oceanside Ca. Crazy bottom with channel. Double wing with swallow tail. Very light , dings easy…The owner of this board loves it! I’ve seen Bill Johnson quads in the local area too. Check out the web page… Support your local shaper…

Nice shape stingray. looks like it can be done, and i think i will go with the dims i have and try it on my next board. Thanks for the pic mate.

CHeers

Managed to upload it this time. Not so sure how wide the tail is though.

I have a “Bean” shape that is so weird I have never seen anything like it. I guess you could call it a mini pig pintail. It is about 7’6" with super wide hips and a very pulled in nose(not a shortboard nose). That thing taught me how to turn. I’ll try to post some pics when I can. It is sure ugly.

OOPs. I read wide point forward and did the dislexic thing. I’ll try to post pics of it anyway as a contrast.
