The wider the tail, the easier it is to catch waves. Not sure about the rest though.

It will help in catching waves, and it will make the board looser but will make the tail want to track up the steep face of a wave. Great for wind swell, mushy and smaller waves but can be very sketchy in the barrel or in bigger more powerful surf.

Great for wind > swell, mushy and smaller waves but can be very sketchy in the barrel or in > bigger more powerful surf. it really depends on how it’s finned.eg, 15.5" tail with 9" single fin does all the afore mentioned but will get sketchy and tend to slip/slideout at the most inopportune time.However, that same tail ith sa, a 2+1 or tri-fin will stick in there and blast you down the line…
yeah…the 2+1’s seem to be very popular. especially in larger Hawaiin style boards. maybe it will become the dominant set-up???who knows what’s to come.
