Kokua, I have a little experience with this kind of stuff. Stay positive, and yes, it can be a little scary, but staying positive and always looking forward with optimism will be a big help. Things will fall into place.

To everyone else out there, get yourself a dermatologist and get a baseline exam whether you think you need it or not. You’d be amazed what can occur where you can’t easily see/check for yourself. Be insistent that the doctor treats all moles, marks, ticks, winks, whatevers that cause him/her to take a second-look as if in three months they’ll be someting serious.

The time to get an exam is the first time you think about it. No delays.

Aloha Sway brothers, Once again thank you for the kind words and support, you guys are the bestan d I am so proud to be a part of this brother hood. I am being positive about this but I am in the dark when it comes to the radiation treatments. How will they affect me since I understand I will have to have them every day, any info would be much appreciated. Aloha,Kokua

Mike,

Just remember when you gave Hawk his black eye…lol.

Kokua,

Keep a positive outlook and you’ll beat it. You’re one of the most positive/upbeat people I know. You have the entire Pato clan sending good vibes and prayers your way.

Radiation is not like it used to be, not like 30/20/10 years ago. And at that I have a friend who had some kind of cancer on his back that got radiated “old school” maybe 25 years ago. His take on it then was chemo affects your entire body system while radiation generally affects more local area- he greatly preferred radiation treatment. More modern things like IMRT and another kind dial it down to tiny areas, which reduced the amount you get exposed to, which in turn reduces the overall affect on your complete body. It sounds at the outset scary but radiation treatment isn’t like Chernobyl-style radiation poisoning.

I’m not in that business but I’ve been around people getting treated. The doctor and radiologists can give you the various options should they be necessary, and they tend to really know how the stages of treatment affect you. I can’t stress this bit enough, though:

take a little notebook and pen and write all the major stuff down!

Going to doctors and specialists especially when you have a lot on your mind and then have to travel too means you will be tired and distracted and you already are dealing with a lot of new and unfamilar stuff. Having another family member or friend there is helpful too. And ask questions. You don’t need to write down every word they say but get the names of treatments and general courses of treatment down, and names of potential facilities they may want to use. There is tons of internet info available and forums for patients and familes. In fact you might have to be careful not to O.D. on info - too much is not a good thing and it all can’t apply in every case. But if they say 15/30/45 treatments (for complete random example) you can see if that roughly corresponds with what other people have been told.

Above all, stay casual. That’s probably the toughest thing to do but it always pays off. Best wishes.

Nels

Hope this doesn’t sound to “woowooee” - But, I’ve been reading about the power of prayer/positive intentions/vibrations/etc. to effect change across space, in spite of time - think distance “healing.”

What about a Sway “experiment” - something to the effect we all do what ever it is we’d choose to do to send positive healing vibrations Mikes way. From what I understand it may be better to try to do it w/some coordination like on the hour, or do a group thing where we all do it for an extended period of time at noon island time, 2pm Pacific ( I think since it’s not daylights savings time.), 5pm Eastern, etc., or???

Howzit Kokua…Ain’t it a trip to hear from all of these people? When I got sick I heard from from just about everybody on Swaylocks and I shed a tear.No shit.It was amazing and it gave me hope.

I bet you will be just fine.Hang in there. If you need a place to stay you can come to Georgia and hang out with me and Tuna in his state of the art 20 square foot factory. We love you Brother. RB

Take it steady, get well soon, see you back here when your ready, All the best.

Break a leg bud. Looking forward to stopping by your place again and checking up on ya.
