i recently stumbled upon a large sum of money, and by stumbled upon, i got paid!
So i am on the hunt for a planer. I am sick of my bosch 1594k and want something else. Preferably not a piece of cheap asian plastic. I mean a skil in ANY shape, i can fix em pretty well. A rockwell, anything older really.
Just recently i saw a powrkraft for about 100$. I also saw a wen planer for like 50$. Anything with a good handle and easy depth adjustment.
Set your sights high, get a Skil 100. It will last you the rest of your life. I bought mine new, in 1964, and I’m still using it. Doing the math, that’s 48 years of service. Don’t settle for less than the best. You’ll never regret it.
Its just so tempting to purchase one. Or maybe a rockwell. Its just i dont have 600$ i have max 400$ right now. Thats after taking a good piece of money from my foam fund. If anybody has a contact for one, or maybe an alternate planer like that rockwell or something else, that would be awesome
There is a pretty good lookin' Rockwell 653 on ebay right now.... some damage to handle but good price. If I had 400 to spend on a planer I would buy a new Clarke/ Hitachi. Good luck.
If you're stuck on getting a 100, go for it. But unless you intend to do a lot of longboards, a Rockell 653 is way overkill.
I wouldn't sell the 100 I have, but I haven't used it in 20 years+. It's just for memorobilia. Hitachi is what I actually like to use. You can get a brand new modded one for ~$400. Use the best bearings you can find and don't ever run the tool with worn bearings and it'll last for thousands and thousands of boards. If you're doing shortboards it's all you'll ever need.
…MD has it right for your budget; if you have more money to invest I suggest the Accurate planer with short base; you can order one in a custom version and it s like a new Skil 100, but better
