Andy Irons just became the new ASP world champ after Luke Egan got knocked out at Sunset. I guess Kauai gets the bragging rights for the next year. I remember him running around in diapers at Pine Trees.Aloha,Kokua

Congratulations to Andy! He definitely found his stride this year, Now Kauai has two world champs to brag about…Andy and Margo Oberg. Kauai No Ka Oi.
Exchamp Sunny Garcia also lives here. Read in the paper this morning that Keala Kennally is in second place in the womens division after the Turtle Bay contest. Not sure if she has a chance for first after the next contest at Honolua Bay, But what a trip if she also won and Kauai took it all. Aloha, Kokua
Kauai is awesome. Not as sunny as Oahu, and not much night life, but great surf and good vibe. Some of you remember Andy in Diapers. I remember Rochelle Ballard when she was Rochelle Gordines and living in Encinitas, CA for a few months when her parents split up. She was fourteen and riding Agua Surfboards for a time. I still have a ton of old slides of her skateboarding. She was cute then too. I’m stoked that she became so successful. Back to Andy: He really improved his attitude and now it shows. He is truly a world-class athlete, in addition to being a world-class surfer. Now his brother needs to grow up a bit if he wants to make the WCT. As for me? I love Oahu best. I’m a fool for the city. I get a thrill surfing Queens on a head high day with kids and women and tandem surfers all sharing perfect blue-green waves while the sounds of Sting and Jimmy Buffet carry across the water from nearby restaurants like Dukes. If I die and go to Heaven, I’ll be disappointed if it isn’t exactly like Waikiki Beach. God, I love that place. Just don’t build anymore walls or jetties…PLEASE! Always speak to Duke when you arrive, and give him a lei. He is a god, no doubt about it.
