Would this work (mixing lam)

was thinking of making a permanent “trunk” board

so pry mini-simmons esque 5’  22"  2 3/4"

but here lies the question. was wondering if anyone has ever done different types of resins for the rails

was thinking resin X bottom with full lap.  resin x deck full lap to bottom.   but then a full maybe 4 inch thick rail laps of epoxy lams, with a epoxy deck patch.

hotcoat the rails with epoxy, but then the rest hot coat with resin x.

A: does this make sense?

B: will this work.

C: IS IT WORTH IT?

trying to get a board that will be durable to dings, but also have a bit of life in it. epoxies feel dead to me.

Aloha

Thanks.

this is my Sways motivated quiver. all homemade the middle row.

C: doesn’t seem worth it.

Don’t see the hot coat plan working out

If epoxy feels dead, make a poly, use s glass for ding resistance.

its too cold heat my garage for poly lamination. but the backroom in our apartment I can do use.

maybe i’ll kick the idea of different hotcoats.

but I have done a board half and half poly and resin x hotcoat.  worked good.

i'm pretty sure Afoaf mixes RR and Resin X ... maybe shoot him a PM

Urethane resins like Resin-X are generally epoxy friendly, meaning they bond well to each other.

Bert Burger seemed pretty stoked at one time with the idea of mixing flex properties by using different types of Resin Research epoxy... One type on the deck and bottom, one type along the rails, etc.  I think at some point he was using 3 different  types on a single board.

Unfortunately that won't get you around cold temperature issues.

Matt Campbell and/or Greg Loehr are likely good sources of information too.

I think that is the first time I have ever heard epoxy described as dead usually it is too lively. to each their own.

hmm… the semantics I’d say… don’t over read that description of epoxy.

hows this: i don’t like the feel, but I like the durability towards dings.

I’ve done epoxy lams and Resin X hotcoats.

Poly lam with the fins and back half of bottom with resin lams.

as for the board itself.

thinking of doing pretty much hard down rails the whole way through… old school…

I’d say i’m not super stoked on the real soft bottoms forward, and the the hullish feel of the few mini sims I’ve ridden.
