It may have been the political photos that put it over the line?
It may also have been that “those” threads ALWAYS go downhill fast.
You know it, I know it and the moderators know it.
Either way, I’m over it and apologize for feeding the flames. A private email or two came through my computer today indicating that a certain someone (who can’t be named) also saw the thread.
I have to agree with Todd on this!!! Sticks and stones may brake my bones but words may !Well you know what I am trying to say! God for bid if I should ever say ROYS name here! Ahui hou Wood_Ogre
I think the whole idea of constitutional rights, freedom of speech and censorship must be discussed within a different context… It has been mentioned before that any website is privately operated at the pleasure and within the rules set by the website manager. Things like constitutional rights aren’t applicable but Mike Paler is a tolerant guy.
The subjects you bring up that you felt may have gone astray but weren’t addressed were likely random events with non specific participants. Certain other subjects are almost guaranteed to flare out of control with the same participants involved nearly every time.
Certain unmentionable topics pop up now and then and the moderators generally deal as best they can. Believe me, it’s a thankless “job” for which none of them get a dime.
It has also been pointed out that there is a degree of fairness that should be applied. With that in mind, topics regarding certain individuals and/or their projects are considered instantly lockable by Mike and the moderators. These topics have generally been identified after a long track record has been established.
Wow, locking threads because they MIGHT go pear is like that - is it Minority Report? - where they arrest people who might be going to murder someone and lockemup just to make sure. It’s like giving your kid a smacked bum for stealing because they MIGHT take a cookie.
From the perspective of a dirty lurker, you mod guys on this forum need to do some getting over it.
Roy is a very hard-to-reason-with personality, but all Roy aside, let threads about the olo itself at pipe stand or fall on their own merits please.
Oh and Todd, re the fin and your comment it failed… Remember that board’s travelled all around New Zealand (I personally took it several hundred miles), and to Hawaii. If an FCS box failed after heavy duty travellage like that, I’d forgive it. It’s a biig fin, imagine the pressure on it when it gets pushed sideways after a pipe wipe. You’d have to be a hard man to call it a ‘failure’ rather than a ‘break’, if you get the difference.
John you are wise, I have a lot of respect for you, and I’m not even saying you are wrong…but damn.
Of course I know that “constitutional rights, freedom of speech and censorship”(forgive my misspelling last time) are in a different context when relating to a
“hosted forum” where the host makes the rules as he/she wishes. And that is quite understandable.
I just feel that this time it was WAY premature. Even for a topic as POTENTIALLY volatile as that one COULD be.
"The rules of Swaylock’s Surfboard Design Forum are pretty simple.
The rules are:
No personal attacks.
Stick to the topics of the various forums.
Please NO advertising in The General Discussion.
Please keep things you want to sell, promote, advertise etc, in the classifieds or the Marketplace Forum."

Look…I’m not trying to “stir the pot” or start an argument here either…
This forum is owned by sway and controlled by him and those he chooses to give control to. It is private. The rules are for us, not him. He made the rules, he can alter or violate them at any time, in any way he sees fit. He pays for the site and has no duty whatsoever to make it “fair”. Anyone not OK with this needs to start their own forum, or get a conference call/sewing circle/coffee klatch/club meeting/circle jerk going where they can make their own rules and discuss any topic in any way they choose to. To bother to argue with or question the owner’s policies or actions is not only disrespectful and inappropriate, but seems childishly oblivious of the fact that someone else is paying the bills/doing the work that makes it possible for y’all to come in here and waste time troutslapping each other, while racing to construct better soap boxes and breed bigger high horses from which to pontificate upon absolutely nothing that really matters.
Either that, or Keith got a popish hat for Xmas is gone all lock-happy.
