Kitchen cryovac- like this?
Yep, that’s the one
Just the fin layup, not vac bagging the board
Your hardware store blank turned out pretty good. Even looks like you got a little rocker in it. I heard those Tasman waves break pretty hard. You may be wishing you had put a stringer in there.
Cool! Thanks shark
You know, that’s a Really Good Idea, not just for fins. Quite a few rather nifty things I could laminate… To the point where I’m mumbling to myself ‘grazawhassinfratsit, why didn’t I think of that?’. Well done.
Now, having said that, may I suggest you revisit the idea of a fin box? So if there’s any questions about what fin is right, well, there ya go. Whip up another one and find out.

Thanks doc, I’ve picked up a fin box at our local fiberglass shop a few times and put it back down, I think your right, I’m getting caught up in trying to be traditional but I don’t know enough about what I’m doing, man I was impressed how well the vac bag worked,
Right? I mean, real traditional is stone tools and fire and slabs of koa(?) wood and whatever design and performance compromises those dictate. As opposed to EPS and vacuum laminating techniques and resins that wouldn’t be out of place building a spacecraft.
Embrace the new. It’s ridiculously fun.

Thanks mate, that’s a funny perspective after what I said, your absolutely right👍
Il get over myself and just have a stab, I can’t wait to give it a go
FYI… for EPS and XPS boards, I put pieces of balsa wood in the foam to support the fin box. I don’t like glass on fins over softer foam because of delaminations under the fin.
