hey guys, first post and first board 6’3"- 21"3/4- 2" 3/4 5 fin fish from the uk . After lurking on here and being totally inspired by some of you guys work i took the plunge and got myself a couple of us 605a blanks. I based the design on an old 70’s tris twin fin i have but wanted to make it a bit more up to date. Loving the griffin 5 fin fish i went with 5 futures boxes.
Made loads of mistakes along the way including blotchy tint and also giving myself 2 hours of hardcore sanding after laying the hot coat on way to thick but all in all it turned out ok. My only worry is that the front fins could do with being a little further back, but its a bit late now. Any feed back on the fin placement would be much appreciated. Cheers for a great forum and i’m stoked i can now contribute a little something. Roll on number two.
never ridden a griffin or seen one for that matter except in photos but i’ve taken it out a few times and had a blast, so nice to take something out you have made.
i think the round blotches near the nose were actually dents in the blank where it fell off the racks while shaping and i tried to grab it leaving finger dents, ooops.
Also not mixing the pigment through properly, first time with a squeegee blind panic may also be a major factor. I didnt hand sand the board and actually burned out my mates 110 transformer on my marathon sanding mission.
For my second it’s either going to be a keel fin fish as i have some true ames hobie keels sitting here or i"m liking the look of the oak foils dyna glide stubbie, looks interesting and fun.
