yet another first board

hey guys, first post and first board 6’3"- 21"3/4- 2" 3/4 5 fin fish from the uk . After lurking on here and being totally inspired by some of you guys work i took the plunge and got myself a couple of us 605a blanks. I based the design on an old 70’s tris twin fin i have but wanted to make it a bit more up to date. Loving the griffin 5 fin fish i went with 5 futures boxes.

Made loads of mistakes along the way including blotchy tint and also giving myself 2 hours of hardcore sanding after laying the hot coat on way to thick but all in all it turned out ok. My only worry is that the front fins could do with being a little further back, but its a bit late now. Any feed back on the fin placement would be much appreciated. Cheers for a great forum and i’m stoked i can now contribute a little something. Roll on number two.

photo gremlins were at work but should be ok now.

does it have that same sweet griffin 5er feeling?

thats looking sweet mate!

and are u sure it aint ur 20th?

never ridden a griffin or seen one for that matter except in photos but i’ve taken it out a few times and had a blast, so nice to take something out you have made.

cheers bud, based in north devon nr braunton.

Board looks great man…did the blotch come from overlaps? and did you handsand it? I just had the same prob sanding on mine…whats your #2 board?

Real nice job, you should be proud of it.

I have been very curious about the griffin 5 fin boards as well. Would be real curious what the fin placement measurements are.

T.

i think the round blotches near the nose were actually dents in the blank where it fell off the racks while shaping and i tried to grab it leaving finger dents, ooops.

Also not mixing the pigment through properly, first time with a squeegee blind panic may also be a major factor. I didnt hand sand the board and actually burned out my mates 110 transformer on my marathon sanding mission.

For my second it’s either going to be a keel fin fish as i have some true ames hobie keels sitting here or i"m liking the look of the oak foils dyna glide stubbie, looks interesting and fun.

Will have to put less rocker on it for uk waves though. Cheers for the comments guys

hey mate any chance of you posting the details of your fin layout, measurements to rear of fins from tail, distance from rail toe in etc?
