I met John Philbin on a local beach about twenty years ago, during a hurricane swell. He was surprised to see waves that big on the EC. He’d approached me while I was shooting pics and began asking questions about the local waves. I became a bit suspicious because he looked familiar. When he explained who he was, I razzed him about being in North Shore. He defended it by saying he’d been paid good money to spend months in Hawaii, surf every day, and all expenses paid, too. Can’t fault him for that. Seemed like an OK guy with a sense of humor.
