That’s funny as hell. Surfing needs more humor. It’s supposed to be fun, eh?

fucking retarded. I wasn’t really there for the renisance of longboarding but I appreciate it’s existence. Surftech is’t responsible for too much in the industry

Ahhh…huh? No mention of Surftech in the video. If this was something made to be played at the SIMA thing it probably knocked those drunken bastards on the floor with laughter. Before longboarding came back there was…almost no longboarding. Almost no longboards. Make a surf check today and see how many boards are longboards. Would the “surf industry” be what it is today without the re-emergence of longboarding? I think not. Although I read today that Quiksilver lost money with $2.something BILLION USD in sales last year…

Nels you have never heard anything that is really funny refered to as retarded? or really good refered to as retarded. it is kinda like how people use the term sick. I longboard in the surf community I call home, the youth that long board are me and two friends. There are a lot of old guys, but the rest of the people under 25 shortboard.(i ride a shortboard unless it is pefect for longboarding)

i thought it was pretty entertaining and funny actually…

Chuckle , chuckle

It’s a joke… I get jokes!

Cheers

Hey Nels

Like the way Quik say they lost money.

Probably like my bank, only made 3 billion profit but would have liked 3.5 billion therefore lost 0.5 billion !!

Hmmm ?

Cheers

Mooneemick

That was damn funny. Where did surftech come into the thing? Mike

Actually, no…I haven’t. Until now. Always coming across something new around here…

I was there about 1991, standing in the hallway with Randy French, in the old Seatrend sailboard factory, poly boards and composite boards lined the walls. Longboards had already begun to make the resurgence (maybe a couple of years in Cali at least); and Randy just sold Seatrend to a Chicago firm. He was to stay on with the new firm and move to Hood river. But he was itching for a new surf niche. I look over to the composite sailboards and said he should apply this technology to surfboards he laughed and said the relative small core size of a surfboard wouldnt justify the use of a composite build and the production facilities didnt really exist. This was a strange statement, since we handled 100’s of sailboards using composites daily, whether from Slovakia or the East. Well I said it would certainly justify a longboard build,

he smiled. Then I said you could get all the old school longboard shapers to do signature models on a large scale. He winced at me as if I were crazy and said, “Do you know hard it would be to convince the old schoolers to commit to putting there name on new technology.”

Three months later, we moved the remnants of Seatread across town to the old Goin factory, where Randy built a hot mold of the first Surftech which was a Rusty 6-0 squash tail. Shortly after he moved to Washington with the new Seatrend.

Three years later he returned to Santa Cruz and longboarding craze was in full swing and SurfTech rode the momentuum to the next step. A slow domino effect...one classic shaper after another...maybe fear of being left behind....or maybe desire for more exposure. Sure was a steroid shot to the surf industry and the feeding frenzy has only recently abated.

Randy certainly deserves his deserts, He took the risk and pulled it off; always a very "serious' hands on guy. Not many would jump in on a hot lamination in dress slacks and leather loafers.

That is gold…Wingnut does a Jack way better than jack could do a Wingnut.

Surftech?/Merrick?? French?? the Pope??? did not spot one of 'em.Not even Jack!

Geez if you can’t see the funny side of that…check to see if ya got a pulse, …none??? yep, you are already dead!

that was HYSTERICAL!

the truth is always funnier.

i love Wingnut’s look at the end of his speach when he’s all proud of himself.

when i was in high school there used to be “picture day” this is when they’d take the pics for

the highschool yearbook, your school I.D. card, and if you wanted, you could order sets of prints

for your mom, family or whatever. usually near the beginning of the school year…

the day after you got your pics back, if you didn’t like them, you took a bad pic, or whatever,

you could go back down during class to the photographers and take a new pic… again, you could

order new prints, I.D. card or whatever. if you ordered prints you had to fill out their order form

but, if you just wanted a new I.D. pic you just wrote your name on a piece of paper and gave it

to the photog. unlike when you took your first pics, during “retakes” there was no school staff down

there and the photogs didn’t know you… so, me and my buddies went down there and all had new pics

taken just for the school I.D.'s and wrote down fake names. a couple weeks later, we got them back and

they were sweet! … if you ever got in trouble with the “narq” (hall monitor, security guard, etc.) you’d

just tell them your “name”, show them your I.D. card, and they’d write you out a detention or whatever

and turn it in to the office.

that was around the time that Endless Summer II had come out … all i have to say is that some kid

named “Robert Weaver” that looked a lot like me had a lot of detentions by the end of the year…

i don’t think he ever served them.

Just seemed strange to me. Maybe I’ve been longboarding too much.

hi guys…Late getting to Swaylocks…but let me clear this up…I did this with Ira Opper of TheSurfNetwork.com for SIMA…

trying to point out that the industry treats Longboarding like a joke…but more 9’+ foam is produced every year than 6’ foam…and who has the money to buy surfboards…its mostly adults…with jobs, who happen to ride longboards…a mix of other surfboards as well…but its longboards that pay the bills for the shops etc…

thanks for watching it…its still on youtube…and never being shy about self-promotion
