The Smut Peddler. A film By Christian Fletcher that Herbie refused to sell (I think). Saw it drunk at a party one night a few years back. I was not the same afterwards.
How about “The Gift” by Perry Farrell…he surfs right?
0…and Apocolipse Now…great surf film.
What’s Really Going Wrong…for the music. Black Francis!
Sipping Jetstreams captures Barbados like no other flick out there. Same swell seen in Campaign II and featured in Transworld Dec 05 issue. Last time I was there, paddled out with the Sipping Jetstreams soundtrack blasting outta Smokey’s!
These aren’t my favorites, but they’re really good and no one’s mentioned them:
*The Endless Summer Revisited. Great kinda “making of” documentary. Love all the interviews and stories behind the films. Historically significant, check it out if you have an interest in surf history.
*The Pipe Masters. Peralta scores again! Great history and the Lopez parts alone are worth the cost of admission!
Anyone else notice how Shelter is kinda Moring of the Earth re-hashed? Both great flicks though!
I also enjoy Bruce Brown’s lesser known movies such as Slippery When Wet and Surfing Hollow Days. Love seeing the classic California spots in the “old days”.
end section of Innermost Limits : “the coming of the Dawn” , most incredible surf cinematography of all time. Heaps better than the more highly regarded “echoes”. Innermost was pretty much a home movie tacked on to the front of Coming of the Dawn to make it to a feature length program.
Classic scene in Freeride when Shaun Tomson has the dialogue crossing the bridge at haleiwa “I don’t think I’ve reached my peak yet” and then chats to the local gas station dude.Where has all the dialogue gone in surf movies? Also Rabbit 'studying" in NS squat.
Last scene of Fantasea with George riding mats. POV footage and george’s V/O: “you’ve got to drive it wide open”. Great mantra.
Anyone else notice how Shelter is kinda Moring of the Earth re-hashed?
True, but such a feeble attempt. Nothing could ever re-capture the spirit of Morning of the Earth. Plus annoying social commentary by Ben Harper(!?) and others made the video extremely lame in my opinion - i used to watch with the sound off.
