Your First New Board

Herbs comment below reminded me of when I ordered my first board. 6’0 Dyno rocket fish. Orange, with yellow flames that actually looked like someone poured a yellow can of paint over it. You could actually feel the paint job! $125 back in 1976. Since then, I have change boards like some men go through women. I miss that first board, even though it wasnt that pretty. SteveA

My first new stick…a canary yellow hansen 50/50…I was twelve years old and bought it (in '64) with a JAR FULL OF CHANGE I got from my paper route tips! It was an expensive purchase for back then; my folks wanted me to use my cash to save for college…so I hid the board under my bed! (better than Playboy…my secret love under the bed! {took some creative camouflage to hide a 9 footer}). Carrying it home from the surfshop, I bumped into a school pal riding shotgun in his father’s convertible…(also new and shiny…top down {the young and the old with our new toys})…Pete gives me a lift to my house with this big-assed yellow surfboard sticking out the back of his car. It only took a few days before I was ratted out by a neighbor!..CLASSIC!!! aloha…T.
