Grew up in Puerto Rico including the last three years on the West Coast, 1967-1970. Began learning the basics in the San Juan area and La Pared in Luquillo. Took a big step forward spending the last month of 1967 summer surfing Jobos almost daily. Graduation from gremmie to surfer came on Labor Day 1967 at Maria’s Beach in Rincon. Quickly transitioned to short board surfing in Spring 1968. Started paipo surfing during Winter 1968/1969 before transitioning full-time Winter of 1969/1970. Haven’t looked back although I bought a 8’4" G&S Hot Curl in 1978 for $28 at Fox Watersports for small days at Hatteras Lighthouse (too small for riding a paipo).
