Good response, just skin the blank, and go a little narrower, using the same outline. Do we need any special bottom shapes, like concaves, panels, extra tail kick, thinner noses, tapered rails, anything? Depends on your size, the kind of waves, the size of waves, the amount of expected chop/bump, the length of your arms (to carry the board), and the size of your car.
I surf 11 footers, I have one that is just what Amborse is telling you to do. In fact it was shapped by Dale Velzy himself. Great board! If you did not change the rocker at all then just cut it down to around 4 inches thick, no thinner then 3 and 1/2 inches, try and cut a little extra rocker in the nose, and get some V in the tail. Don’t make it too flat, get some belly in there. Glass it heavy if you can carry it mine is 7.5X2 deck and 7.5X2 bottom glassed on Skig fin. The board weights close to 35 lbs. Surfs like a dream but a bitch to get to the water, from the van. I have surfed some head high + waves on mine but it is really nice on those small days when the waves are rolling and hard to catch. Chris, One of my favorite boards was shaped from Clark’s 11’3". It’s FAST and holds in to the hollowest wave. I used the natural rocker, and cut it down to 11 ft even. The nose is pulled in and comes to a point. The tail is a rounded pin with slight V and subtle double concaves starting about 30" up. Thickness is 3 1/2" . The rails are 50/50 until the last 36" where they go gradually to tucked under edge. The single finbox is 6" from the back of the tail so I can move the fin forward for quicker turning. I painted the deck to look like the front of a Santa Fe train: The Super Chief. Fun board. Doug
Chris - I’ve got two 11’0" I use all the time. One is a Velzy Model 63 - Dimensions: Nose 17" - Center 24.5" - Tail 16.5" - Thickness 3.75" The other is a repro Model AAA from Jim the “Genius” Phillips Dimensions: Nose 18.5" - Center 24.5" - Tail 15.25" - Thickness 3.75" Both are cruisers and turn quite well Hope this helps !!!
