look guys, I didn’t know I was going to strike such a nerve. I personally felt it was a little much when I was comparing it to other pricey boards. I also feel that you boardbuilders who have spent years perfecting your skills deserve what you sell a board for. I have only been building boards for 8 years and I know the time, effort that goes into each board(literally sanding your fingers to the bone). Stu kinson, I know you are a master craftsman. No offense intended to you. I have only seen beautiful work by you. There is a lot of talent on swaylocks, and I can only hope that someday, I will have the knowlede a lot of you have, I’m definitly on my way, but have a ways to go. And when I get there, Maybe $1100 won’t sound so bad. Stu, Jim , Kokua , Herb, and many others, much respect to you. PEACE!
let me be the first to pledge you $1. Now if all the rest of you sensitives out there, all 1099 of you, will make up the difference so this neophyte can ride a real good board before they become extinct .stop by the house on the way to the beach I got the buck in my pants pocket right here folded up left over from buying lemons at star market,I’d mail it to you but it would cost 34cents. aloha ambrose I forgive you
No surfboard is worth $1100. But thats what people will pay. Look into the lives of the shapers who spend their time complaining about not making money. You will discover houses by the seaside, 3 kids being educated and fed and provided with a nice quiver. They do alright for themselves, dont you worry about these poor old struggling shapers.
beaver- i have don’t have 3 kids and a wife in a house by the seashore-you are just fuckking jealous because you may NEVER make shaping boards your sole income.get a life- i’m willin to bet you dont even work in the real industry.
Beaver, you have your head so far up your ass it’s unbelievable. I have shaped professionally for 40 years, I drive a 71’ Ford van, rent 4 mikes from the beach, the kids have to fend for themselves for college and I live check to check. I have more work than I can shake a stick at, work six days a week and took my first vacation in ten years. I think shapers and board builder deserve a fair price for a crafted product.
Who was the guy on here who said he made cabinets for $1700 and the shop sold them for $8000. Dude, fuck surfboards and the supposedly hardcore surf lifestyle choice of the shaper, sell those things yourself dont give them to a shop. You could have been living large by now geezer.
I’ll say it again. Wouldn’t you pay 1100 bucks for a Picaso? It’s a work of art, and if you hang it on the wall it will last forever. Take it surfing and it will eventually fall apart. Same thing with surfboards. Left on the wall it will last forever and, therefore, is an inexpensive piece of artwork, even at 1100. But, take it surfing and it will eventually fall apart. If you want the best (polyester), then you are going to pay for it and it will break. Or, you can buy a Surftech and fit in perfectly with the guys riding Bics and inflatable dragon pool toys from Wal-Mart. We all wish a board could be custom made and last forever, but it isn’t here yet. On a different note: What happens to all the broken and delaminated boards that are no longer useful? Where do they all go?
left at puerto escondidio, given to poorer kids in costa rica, some in the landfill…
