Hey Mick
Tell us more…
Hicksy
So…We’re looking at two different boards there (It looks like), and one appears to be a McTavish?
All the pics are of the same board…its 12’0’ x 23’ x 3.5" …it looks shorter in a couple of them for some reason. still cant get the photos to come up larger than what they are there which makes it a bit hard to see. those photos are taken at 3 breaks i surf it at most of the time. the lefthander is a reef/point, one of the best spots for a big board that i have found, doesnt really break all that often, the swells always back right off into a deep hole at the middle of the ride, which is when a 12’0’ comes in handy. the other is a right point, usually i paddle around the headlands there on flat days and 50% of the time i will get a few little peelers to myself when the surf report is saying there should not be any swell showing, always pays to check anyway cause no one else seems to.
originally i got the board made to be able to paddle and surf away from the crowds a bit. so there is a bit of volume in the rails. turning, cutbacks ect took a bit of getting used to after riding 9’0’ longboards. but now after surfing it for about 8 months i can lay it over on a rail fairly easily. i worked out that a board this big works best in really fat mushy walled up waves with no steep sections, hightide pointbreaks, outer rivermouth sandbars ect. there is one rivermouth i surf regularly at high tide, i have ridden swells out there and just kept going for miles over green sections that dont even break, just trimmed out until it links up with the next section.
Are you an Aussie? that kinda looks like the left on the other side of angourie? No?
Josh.
yeah im in oz but that spot is not angas, i surf up in QLD. but i have surfed that left at angourie there it was a similar wave. that back beach at angourie is a nice place.
