16 x 34 x 6 Fishing SUP. aka.SS-1600 Jr.

I give you the human powered green, Seal Slayer 1600 Jr.

I you have been all waiting to see this...I know, yawn.  But what are you doing when there's no surf.   I know...ReSinHeAD what are you going to do with a 16 ft Surfboard... Like I told you before it gets pretty small in a hurry on the ocean, so stop complaining about the size. and bend over and take it like a man.

Got most everything I wanted on the board last night. Went out fishing in La Jolla.  Caught some mackerel for bait. .. so, at least I didn't get skunked.

Pretty explaintory:  Forward box custom chopped up Igloo Wheelie cooler. Converted into a  pole holder, paddle holder, VHF radio, tackle box, Ice chest, knife, pliers, and all round storage box etc, etc.   Back box is bait tank for mackerel, or cooler for beer.  Also works great to sit on when fishing.  Deck pad is that interlocking excersize stuff in the diamond plate design, that I cut into a design so it would shed water if wet.. I stuck it down with a fablous 3M product called Hi Strength 90...it's Super 77 evil big brother, once its dry...It's not coming up, wet or dry.  So the whole pad set up cost less than $20.  Total weight with both boxes in the carry position.....about 45 lbs.

Board paddles great from stand up, on kneeling position.  very stable, very secure.   I paddled from La Jolla Shores to Windansea. Then Windansea to Scripps Pier, then along beach to Shores. Pretty good little jaunt on the beast.   next time I'll bring a camera.

Thank you Segway Ken for the great blank and cut. Let the killing begin.

freaking awsome man , looks like your gona have alot of fun with that one

The best part is the looks I get from other guys, dogs, rats etc. when I'm carrying it down to the beach under my arm like a regular surfboard.  One guy already asked me, "what are you going to do with that thing?"  I replied...Hey Capt'n Obvious, see dem ol fish'n poles..I'm a gunna catch me a surferman.

Resinhead nice work,I’ve been wanting to make a fishing skiff for when it’s flat. That thing is awesome.

This is a very well-thought-out design, looks like a LOT of fun.  I imagine standing while fishing offers a much better

vantage than sitting as with regular board-fishing.  How are the cooler boxes fastened, look super secure but look held with

velcro straps(?)

That board looks better than the commercial popouts on offer.

The ones I’ve seen still look like up-scaled, widened noseriders, which would only be good for light winds, calm conditions.

The SS looks ready to cut through the chop and swell without a high aspect to catch cross-winds.

Excellent work.

I like the placement of the esky (cooler box) as a seating option.

Though I can imagine you paddling back in from fishing, catching a runner and going to step back to the tail and going arse over tit on the cooler box that you’ve forgotten about.

LOL!

That thing is bitchen.

Especially fitted out in posh Trini style.

 I want it.

Fishing 2 miles out, wind has just shifted to off shore at 25 knots, water temp 50 degrees, Just paddled through a bird pile , got 2 fish on. Hit by some side chop and hooli over. Down in the water and a bunch of pissed of seals are closeing in.! Are we haveing fun yet !! All that aside, very nice fishing board ! Well done !

Resinhead...

Looks great!!!  Are you ready to build the fleet???  How did the fin placement come out?  I take it this is much more stable than the kid's board...

Thanks Again...  as well as the note from Mrs resinhead...tell her thanks as well...

That's not an SUP, THIS is an SUP!!. Great work mate, i have a certain river i'd like one of those for.

The best feature is the two beer coolers.  You gotta drink the beer to make room for the fish!  F…kn brilliant!  Mike

George, The coolers are held by velcro. I put the leash plugs in, then did the leash string thing.  The velcro is the 2 sided stuff..so it wraps around twice.  I can get it really tight.  No worries on the front being a bit loose, because if a fish hits, the whole board turn that way.    I got my fish trap lure caught on a kelp stringer...so I just pulled myself over, put the rod in the holder, and jumped in and dove down to recover..no problem.

Ken, Oh yeah, it's a lot more stable.  I can turn around and fish backwards.  I can walk up to the front past the front box.  I can fish sitting down, I can fish standing up, I can dangle my legs over the side and fish that way.   But I might need a rudder system for when it's really windy.....Or I'll just float on it and drink beer, like Mike said.

Cuttle..I just sit on the box and steer from there.  I came piling through the line up today at La Jolla Shores. There were about 200 guys out surfing waist high waves at best,  I come booging  through the crowd doing about 6 kts....Look out, look OUT..LOOK OUT!!!  I do have an extra set of plugs in the back so I can move the cooler back if more room is needed.   But it's best right behind your feet so you can sit real easy if needed.  i can see some of the time, not even needing the back cooler.....but then what would fishing be with out beer?

I wish I could have been there for the Maiden Launch. I bet you could work your way down to Baja on that Beauty…Wherever she goes…have a

''AINT NO HEAD, LIKE RESINHEAD!''    Great work Jay.    I'd love to see it in person.

Very Nice Mr. Head! You may have spawned a movement.

Strap a surfboard to it to get into the Ranch!  No more Vandalized pier launch from Gaviota.  Straight off the beach! My mind is reeling!!!

Resinhead, How hard would a five mile coastal paddle be?

Nice job R Head. My 12' 6" is almost ready for action. I'll be out there with you in a few weeks!

Ray

Mr. Head – Paddle from San Diego to Big Sur in October!  Ha!

I guess it depends on what kind of a hurry you are in?  I'm just guessing the paddle I did yesterday was about 4 miles or so? maybe more?  I'm a little sore today, but I suspect that is because my paddle hasn't been cut down yet, and i'm an old fart.  All in all The SS1600 is an easy paddle...you could kind of day an all day thing if you didn't push too hard.  The Kayak guys are a bit faster...but not by much.

As for towing a surfboard...I thought about that.   I'm going to put a section of PVC pipe through the nose...like a bull's nose ring. Then I'll put a leash plug in the deck of my 9'10 gun.....then you just tow it to where ever.....and you have an escape vehicle if it starts to stair step and gets too big at Pickleweed Pt.

You guys should talk to Ken if you're serious about the foam.

Hurry up Ray. The White Sea Bass are just about done doing there white sea Bass thing..and now the Calico Bass are going mental, biting anything that is thrown in front of them.  it's all a tide thing.   My kids been using the 12'6" one, and has been having a blast on it.

You need to get it in the water because you won't exactly know where you want thing on the deck until to try it out first.
