OK, ive been researching alot and i think its time to shape my first board. I have a 6' ajw version of the lost rocket. I bassically want to make a 5'10" version of this board. Ive read the lost rocket thread and i know what eveyone thinks about reproducing this board. But my ajw works real well and I want a shorter version of it so thats what i decided to shape. I like the real wide tail so im thinking im going to bassically take the outline of the ajw and just chop the tail 2". Obviosly playing with the rocker and dims to adjust it. I think Im going with PU because im really not up to date on the eps/expoxy deal. So now, what blank to I need? I was on foamez and looking at the 6-2 fish blank. I was thinking the fish blank to get that low entry rocker? Im not really sure. Can anyone point me in the right direction, post up some links, or throw out any info/advise you have? Thanks.
yeah, I'd go with the 62A us blank. Try to get it red density, cause you gonna want to have a light, high performance board like the rocket is. Plus your first glass job will most likely be a heavy, bulky one. Do not just chop the last 2" off your board to make a 6' a 5'10". BAD IDEA. it will totally change the board you love into one that you could easily hate. Instead take a piece of masonite or any other wood sheet that bends, trace the outline of one of the halves of your board, and cut it out with a jig saw. It doesn't matter if it is 6'. When cutting your outline out on your blank, mark your desired width for a 5'10" at the half way point on the blank, then lay your wood outline template down, and you will trace the outline from the nose tip to the wide point that you previously marked. Next do the tail to wide point, and repeat process on the other half of the blank.
Cutting the tail off would just cause problems such as: less manuverablity, greater difficulty with rail to rail transitions off the tail, etc.
Good luck. I've never ridden a rocket, but i've seen them. If were both on the same page here(talking about the same board) than this 62a would be my go to blank.
OK ill try out what you said about tracing the board. And if the board comes out semi decent i think im going to have it glassed by a pro. If it comes out bad, ill glass it just to get the practice. Thanks for the advise. Anyone else feel free to post up what you think!
Here is the board im basing my shape on. Id like something like this but just a 5'10".

Have you looked at the US Blanks 5' 10" RP , the top measures 5' 10 5/8' long so it gives you 5/8 of an inch to play with and you can stay with the natural rocker, easier to shape.Just a thought
Tom
yes i was looking at that blank. Is that going to give me the low entry rocker that I want?
Or use the 6’2"A and position your template so that you get pretty much the rocker you’re after.
