2 + 1 Fin Setup for 8'0" Funboard?

Planning on the usual 3-fin thruster setup but was wondering if I could use a 2+1 setup with good results? I like the idea of a movable, larger center fin. This board is 8’0", 23" wide and 3.12" thick - really a mini-longboard.

Thanks,

BB

On any board that is designed for a standard array of 3 fins, I always opt for the 2+1 configuration (Futures sides) because of the configuration/adjustment

versatility.

Hey BB,

The Future rails, Bahne Center is a very versatile way to go. It’s my favorite. You can make endless fin combinations with it and it stands the test of time well too.

Hey Halcyon,

where can I find more info on the Bahne system?

Boxes and fins.

Where can I buy?

I know nothing about it.

Thanks in advance!

“Bahne” is just the old longboard single fin box, made by bahne, fins unlimited, chinook, and at least 3 more companies, with Chinook the strongest and postable thru to the deck, and be a one piece box that is hardest to break.

Boondock Bill, for sure it’s good.

I like twin fins, so my 7’9" funboard is a twin with two 6x6" g-10 windsurf fins off a twinzer windsurf board by Bic. I use the middle trailer of around 3.5" only if the surf is well overhead, or mushy head high. Short, snappy turns that mimic a 6’ shortboard!

Either the 2+1 or single fin! My fiance rides an 8’6 and its nice as a single, but i am partial to them…good luck!

Hi BdB

The reason I use a twin is that I’m getting older now, at 55, surf only once a month, but still like shortboard high performance surfing.

30 years ago, I was 4A competition surfer, with a vert style that I haven’t given up on. I hate to cruise, don’t care for tuberides.

Now I can’t paddle a 6’ trifin, so I settle for a 7-7’9" funboard, but with a snappy twin fin setup that really carves some tight radius turns.

If you like speed, the feel of, like to trim and run and gun, for sure, a single is the way to go.

Use what you like, what you like the feel of, listen to all opinions, but make up your own mind!

Just finished a 8’1" w/ 2+1.

Go for it. If you use a fin system for sides and center box you have the luxery & the option to EXPERIMENT!!!

Always give yourself options

24-7-11 always!
