I’ve been working on my second board, got it just ready for glassing, when I ran into a some unforeseen issue…
My neighbors cat got into my garage and decided to use it as a scratching post.Big 1/8" to 1/4" gouges on the left rail and right butt cheek.
[img_assist|nid=1060278|title=5'11''Fish Post Cat, whole board|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=67|height=100][img_assist|nid=1060279|title=5'11''Fish Post Cat, left rail.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=67|height=100] I guess I should spackle and re sand before I glass? The blank is from Homeblown BioFoam, has anyone had any experience repairing these? I don’t want the spackle to not bond and delam after glassing.
Blunder 2.
My friend found a partially rotting windsurfing board in the trash. So, I stripped the glass and cut off the rotting parts and now have a fairly decent blank. Photos are attached.
The only issues are, there are 3 fin boxes on the bottom and tons of strap boxes and a large box on the deck. I was planning on routing these out and patching with scrap foam.
My questions are 3. If this is a good idea, how should I adhere the new patches in the holes, Gorilla Glue or the like? Will removing the rear three fin boxes make the tail too weak? If all of this works, do you guys have some ideas for what I should shape? The blank is about 7’6’’ and about 3.5 inches thick.
Gently sand out he CAT marks with a sanding screen. It's just a slight adjustment in your shape. No worries.
On the windsurfer blank.....none or very little glue. Make your foam patches nice and tight. If you have glue or resin lines around the patches it will make it tricky to sand smooth.
Howzit bro, I work with stripped down boards all the time; I rip out fin boxes, strap inserts and even rip out and reuse FCS fin inserts; itʻs all doable but it takes time, patience and some tools; the worst thing is when boards are patched on the rails; makes stripping old glass problematic; the foam is usually still good but with all the patching you end up doing you usually gotta do solid pigment lams to hide all the flaws; but the earth is filled with old warriors [boards] begging for new life and thatʻs just what I give em; old foam windsurfers are good for most any board since they still have meat to play with; so bro, I encourage the practice!!; then every now and then get a nice fresh blank and make something special…kay den…laters
