Humble Thanks to everyone

Ozzy thanks – PM re epxy clr glssng ?

Hey G your shape brings back some old memories.

My first ever shaping attempt back in early 80’s, was a 9 or 10ft sailboard from a Clark blank that I bought from a friend at deep discount.

The finished shape looked very familiar to yours.

Unfortunately, I never glassed and finished the board…

stupid me…

…young dumb and full of c_m.

Finish her off and have a go.

LOL! Did you mean to do that?!

Thanks Dave

hi mike

i was talking to a mate the other day whos been making boards for many years

hes doing a travel board and said that he would only use fcs because you can buy a hole drill and fcs plug almost anywhere

or even carry a few spare plugs in your luggage

i know that futures is a strong system, but they can be damaged and are difficult to repair

from the experience of 30 odd compsand regulars

water intrusion seems to be the only problem using lowdensity eps cores

because we are pretty anal about these thing and all want to make a perfect board

and a not constrained by time or economics

all of us have followed berts lead

most of our boards that have didnt go the distance are from waterlogging over a long period from slow small leaks

rather then a big ding (which you notice)

this is either from pinholes, leaking fin boxes or leash plugs

the inserts increase the load bearing capabilities of the plugs themselves

and completely isolate the core from the system

also fix any problems people may have with heating of the resin

they are easily installed with a router and template

and if i could get the ones fcs make id be very happy

as it turns out i cant get them and have to make my own

but if they came standard with a set of fins and plugs

id be stoked

i think sometimes people get obsessed with making the strongest or the best

but maybe there is other ways to achieve final goals

and possibly a better overall result

Yeah exactly. That was my first thoughts.

and excuse my insolence mr J but those boards have a solid dose of Aussie North Coast Point Pedigree about them…best save your deniro get those thoroughbreds out of the beachbreak corral and give em a good gallop on a lined up pointbreak…and while I’ve got ya on the line , any chance of slapping a great big twangy single-fin on one ?

Steve

Janklow.

Nice looking board ya have there. Has a very similiar profile to a 6’0" 1968ish Hansen and old man gave me in Richmond, Virginia. Gonna restore it some day… Great work!! Can’t wait to see it finished…

Thanks Steve. They have a full dose of Oz, you’re right on about that. I neglected that. There’s a lot of that exact thing in them. The twangy single thing was definitely a train of thought for a good while for the stub. The leaf was actually fully designed for a Star-Fin, but I didn’t like any of the solutions for installing a single box on a stringerless enough for to do it. I might glue one up and do it all over.

I do get good long walls and rides on the odd day here–there’s a half mile long jetty, which the wave doesn’t follow like a point, but it blocks wind and cross current if it’s just right and you can travel

mudy,

I love S decks–how’d that one go as a twin–like I said, I fully thought about that too–especially on the leaf shape

g

i liked benny method of installing a box

he glues the dcell to the box first i thik

Thanks Kirk–you probably saw these already as I find out youre addicted to the site like me:

Fresh Dain Thomas stubs

Sup Jank,

This classic has never seen the water yet, and im too damn big to surf it. I look forward to cleaning it up and restoring it so my boys can give it a go. Classic retro twins on this one…

Huzzzah X 2!

Lee V.!

I’m kinda thinking about foiling my own glass-on fins now–all the fins I can find are pricey and concaved and weird, and deciding between the systems… the chipjock bullsht they’re all made for…not to mention the board stays sealed

There’s some nice birch with thin clean ply at the local art supply store, and I used to make boomerangs, so I figure I’ll give it a throw (NPI)–can get them put on locally

Gonna get me some more foam soon too, cut this one expero shape, or something, and do some testing/practicing stuff with the offcuts

Might end up glassing them here after all…

etc

There they are! Been in the water yet?

Those are sweet… Did you end up glassing them after all? If you didn’t, you definitely should on the next ones. Glassing is half of the fun and progression. Besides, most glassing stuff ups can be fixed, save some cosmetics.

We are awaiting the ride reports/ripping photos…

Josh

Very nice! What was the final glassing schedule?
