I did the same thing so I could roll around while my little girl rides her scooter or bike. Me being from the old school, the cheap 55mm wheels and bearings that came with it (bought a blank complete online) felt atrocious. Picked up some cushy 70mm long-board wheels with decent bearings and oh my what a difference. But I’m just cruising on concrete. I’ve played around a bit in the local concrete bowl and the wheels are actually too fast and too grippy. They don’t let me slide the rear end around like I prefer on the top turn.
You might go with slightly harder wheels. That ramp’s begging for a twin to face opposite.
Bones skate park formula wheels are really nice if you ride a lot of transition and bowls. They have a really good release and feel very controlled. I bought a 56mm set and they’re so nice. Been skating forever, longer than I’ve surfed. I’ve ridden boards with longboard wheels in a bowl and the speed is amazing, but too much at times and tricks are weird when the board’s so high of the ground.
Bones atf or whatever they’re called are nice too. They’re softer, but not too soft, plus they still slide resonably well and you don’t feel like you’re riding a jackhammer.
You might want to put sheet metal or something at the bottom of the ramp, unless the wood’s thin and doesn’t cause a big bump. It’ll help it from getting chewed up too, but it’s probably not entirely necessary.
Ah, yes. The sheet metal trick. As a kid we’d use old street signs. Speed limit signs, no parking signs, etc. Whatever we found lying around.
after some reaserch, I picked up a set of Bones 56mm / 90a wheels.
splashed out and got some reds bearings.
… the difference is beautiful, so smooth. really enjoyable to ride. my other wheels were 50mm / hard. haha
The tallent of todays young skaters is mindblowing.
